sometimes reading fanfiction where andrew is portrayed as being the cool nonchalant tough guy makes me forget that in the books (unmedicated) andrew is actually kind of a little bit awkward 😭 like especially post-baltimore when he's waiting to help neil shower. from neil's perspective it reads as andrew's usual quiet monotone blank i-don't-care behavior, but when you think about it from an outsider's perspective, andrew kind of just seems pathetically awkward and nervous and unsocialized

Andrew deserves more credit for taking care of Kevin. It‘s mentally and physically so hard to be the primary caretaker of someone who is so severely depressed and traumatised. Kevin requires 24/7 supervision canonically and in the beginning would not be able to perform even the most basic everyday tasks. And Andrew does it without question, whilst juggling college, exy and his own mental health.
I think criticism against Andrew for making a mistake here and there is crazy considering all that. I think it‘s highlighted beautifully when in tsc after the ravens leave the nest they are dropping dead left right and centre. Kevin‘s odds actually would have been even worse but Andrew does such an amazing job with him that Kevin is not only alive but getting better every day.

Okay has anyone ever talked about how Hiro is kind of supposed to be a negative example of how the heroes could be like if given too much power and not having a cause to work for? He turned into a total jerk upon getting Excalibur (even if it's all for 'revenge' for having been bullied) Hiro ironically has no interest in becoming a 'hero' despite being in a 'Hero School', he only concerns himself in being as cool like he's in a normal school (which was even lampshaded)
I also find it peculiar how Ohkubo kept using ironic names for his characters. Black Star and Soul have names that kinda made them sound like they're destined to be bad guys ('Darkness of the world' for BS and 'Soul Eater' for Soul) and they're more jerks with hearts of gold rather than some nice guys, but part of their character arcs is to resist falling into the dark side and actually be heroes. Meanwhile Justin and Hiro have names as virtuous and 'heroic' as they can be, Justin even straight up introduced himself as a freaking priest for the whole 'Holy' motif, and Hiro is supposedly so nice he's a freaking doormat. Yet Justin dies a traitor and a villain, and Hiro is remembered as the pathetic jerk who couldn't even continue putting up with Excalibur over a stupid sneeze.
