The tendency for the fandom to give Crona a little too much credit needs to be studied.

I want this one person on tiktok who kept yapping soma shippers are larpers for pointing specific moments being shippy and that it's a horrible ship because they are 'best friends' to come to me so I can shove them this entire blog and see if they like it.

It's technically possible to structure a reboot around Soul (structuring each cour of the season to start and end around him) but like...the reason why he's often so dismissed and deemed forgettable by the fandom is Ohkubo's seeming inability to write dialogues for him or making him brood about actual substantial things like his near death trauma (or whatever caused him to put such low value into his life in the first place such as if his homelife hadn't been very good) and I was wondering if it was....again, got to do with how Maka was written requiring many double standards. Ohkubo set Maka up as both a comic relief relying on violence as a gag and the woobie everyone must comfort, validate, and look after. Which is strange since Maka could've a pretty fantastic arc if her arc could also be about growing out of her emotional volatility while still also learning she can be valued without being a pitch perfect overachiever. He couldn't pass up the iconic book chop gag or Maka reacting very badly over witnessing Blair harassing Soul since he seemed to get a kick out of the usual 'wife witnessed husband got distracted by the sexy and she slaps him in jealousy' type of gags even if it doesn't make any sense.

I stand what I said that there should be more on-screen communication regarding what Soul went through and that making the Crona plot solely about propping Maka up is not a really great move. JP fandom thought it was weird too that there's absolutely no communication about it. The anime at least gave that scene with Kid at the courts, but even it just confirms Soul hadn't gotten any closure. It's just poor taste to have the Crona plot being to just showcase Maka's hero complex, coulda give her Judy's arc in the sequel to give it some nuance.

Mad Blood arc basically kinda confirming Soul needed to unlearn whatever toxicity he learned in the Evans household. He recognized that he ultimately needed to breathe, and stop seeing music as a competition against his brother since it prevents him from truly knowing how to value himself as he is and accept his imperfect, awful playing (and after he could accept it, it was when he realized he could actually use music to just express himself without fear)

I wish Nautical Reckonings were on AO3....

The ending of Soul Eater might leave so many loose points but soma development is still very solid. Glorify them as is? Sure. Continue where they left off? Absolutely. Create canon divergence what-ifs where things don't go as smoothly for angst? (E.g what if Soul successfully got brainwashed by Arachne, what if Soul got too late at stopping Clown Maka etc) hell yes. Soul Eater might be a messy, underdeveloped sandbox as a universe, but soma is already a well-developed sandbox with premium toys available.
