Life's predicaments ...
All of us have had moments where we found ourselves lost, alone and confused. And more often times than not, we think that we are alone and no body could ever understand our predicament.
Sometimes we even might be experiencing new reactions and thoughts within ourselves that can be scary and disorienting. Who could possibly understand what is going when we donât have any idea what is going on with our selves.
These examples I am sure have already given you some idea what I will be talking about ..
Poor Mental health
People generally hear about this topic and immediately start to shake their heads and think of violence , out of control behavior, crazy ideation ..
âno that has never happened or will happen to meâ
The fact is having poor mental health is something natural that comes out of two things: our negative day to day experiences and genetic predispositions. It has many shapes and forms, a wide range of intensiity , and can sometimes just manifest itself in pure self-loathing and confusion.
Feeling âmentally out of shapeâ doesnât automatically mean those stereotypes will come true nor does it mean there is no hope.
What it really means is that we are human. Without mental illness we would loose our humanity.
Just like our physical bodies are vulnerable to bacteria and viruses, our minds and souls are vulnerable to bad experiences.
The great thing about this is that we already have the antibodies developed. And thatâs within us.
Imam Ali (a.s)has a quote âYour sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it and your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. You presume you are a small entity, but within you is enfolded the entire Universe. You are indeed the evident book, by whose alphabetâs the hidden becomes manifest. Therefore you have no need to look beyond yourself. What you seek is within you, if only you reflect. â
All we need is a little help in discovering our potential and our complexities. This is where we counsellors come in.
What is counseling exactly? We are people who are trained in becoming âmirrorsâ for those who have trouble staring at their reflection.
We donât offer advice, we offer guidance and clarity so that the reflection in the mirror can become clearer and clearer.
Whether the problem is a simple desire for change in life or a serious mental illness that has damaged the reflection, counsellors are equipped in skills that help clarify the image.
We help in solving problems, encourage change, and most of all we use our passion for humanity to instill hope into peopleâs lives.
So the next time you feel helpless, alone, or just plain confused try to remember that there are people who care and who are ready to help. Allah swt has provided tools in this dunya for us use , because of His mercy and we should never lose hope in His mercy.
