Films watched in May 2017... quite a popcorn munching bunch this month...all of them were pretty 3 star, I'd say the standout was Colossal starring Anne Hathaway...very hard to explain the movie in a sentence or two, but surprisingly entertaining, combining comedy and more drama than you'd expect. Alien Covenant was okay, might need a second watch but I'm not in a rush, Snatched was a half decent date movie and Sleepless and Unlocked could've been enjoyed as Friday night DVDs...and Mindhorn was pretty funny. It always feels really obvious when the US awards season ends based on the type of films that come out, and April feels like its just been an ‘ok’ month for films…was looking forward to Free Fire and I’ll probably give it another watch, great build up to tension to start with but felt like it had a bit of a lull in the middle…F8, well, you know exactly how this movie plays out, so not a lot to say…Life started pretty well, but it lives in the shadow of Alien…Table 19 was surprisingly good, I thought it would be a bit 2 to 3 star, but turned out to be closer to 4…Guardians Vol 2 was enjoyable, and I was looking forward to Belko Experiment, which again had a good start, but didn’t really offer anything much other than what was in the initial set up. Bit late with this but here are the new films I watched in March 2017...started strongly with Logan which was better than I expected, still ended with a slightly blockbuster final 3rd but a great departure from the usual superhero fayre...Fist Fight was one that you're glad you didn't spend £12 on seeing...Fences was really good, but felt very obvious that it had been adapted from a stage play. I loved Get Out, not a big horror fan and it wasn't a gore fest, just a very well lit together film. Hidden Figures was also very good, felt a touch too nice and neat though considering the racial divides of the erase...Ghost in the Shell was okay...and Beauty and the Beast was decent, however I think I prefer the cartoon version!
