Who could blame him? ♥️ Someone commented on a previous post saying ‘Viggo Mortensen is the biggest horse girl there is’, and I couldn’t agree more. A little more detail: Before he was Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen was a kid riding horses on a farm in Argentina, shaped early by gaucho horsemanship and a deep respect for the rider–horse bond. During the long shoot of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, he spent his days off at the stables, later turning that connection into his photography book The Horse Is Good. He didn’t leave his movie horses behind. Viggo bought Uraeus (Brego) and Kenny (Hasufel), stepped in so a co-star could keep Florian, and chose to leave the LOTR horses in New Zealand for their wellbeing. Then came TJ from Hidalgo (yes, he bought him too and famously rode him to the premiere). Today, several of his horses live at his Idaho ranch, with others added after projects like Appaloosa. Most recently, while making The Dead Don’t Hurt, he purchased Viento, the stallion he rode — another partnership that didn’t end when filming wrapped.
