But the more I talk about Fey and Tori and their friendship and them being huge dorks together the more I’m thinkin’ I might ship my own OCs, and that was not the point of the story but it very much is the point, ya feel me?

I mean, why not both???

She’s totally a terrifying force of nature that has had loyalty (at times literally) beaten into her and has huge envy issues and a monster crush on her childhood best friend, who is sometimes sympathetic but mostly just enjoys fucking with her because that’s what best friends do, even if they’re a little estranged.

But also TOTALLY a huge angry nerd who doesn’t see the point in frivolous things and gets Very Upset when things don’t go exactly to her plan and sometime murderous because superpowers. So usually, with most people, things go according to her plan.

Fey - delete, never think about again, remind yourself that all parts of the human race are worth protecting, not just the bits you like.

Victoria - she’s found a way to send back an audio file of a song that forces the guy to not wear pants for a full month - any way he tries to cover his junk just sets itself on fire. The spell was deemed “legal” largely because anyone who would try to arrest her would A) have more sense than that and B) realistically worry that she’ll just cast it on them as well.

Nox - Shows it to Victor and laughs as he laments the fall of the greater purpose of technology and man in general.

Julie Dichen - sends back a selfie of a disgust face. If they press the issue, the next selfie she sends back is her blood-covered mace after a battle, getting her victim in the shot as well.

Samuel - prays for the man, that he may find healing, and then reports it to the proper authorities.

2. What apps do they have on their phone?

A mix of basic utility things (email, bank accounts, instrument tuning apps) and awful money-sucking games where you build up an army and attack other people. She pays a lot to be able to build her town and troops quickly and then conquer everything she can find. Unsurprisingly, she tends to place a lot of stock in the higher, more powerful units, and is less worried with the building of the resources or the more common troops - which is why she spends so much money on a cell phone game.

3. What’s their wallpaper/phone background?

Sheet music to her favourite battle song: it creates a circle around her of fast-moving air and debris and then spikes out in every direction with deadly accuracy and eliminates anyone within 25 feet of her all around. She hums it happily while punching in the unlock code. Other fairies think that’s really fucking creepy, and they’re not wrong.

She would get so confused by emojis! 

“What is the meaning of these symbols? Are they self-censoring? I don’t recognize the significance.” 

“Uh, it’s a smiling face? If you turn your phone sideways-” 

“Why would I turn my phone sideways? Why not just type ‘I am smiling’, it is much more direct? Look, now they’ve sent me a little cartoon woman waving. She looks nothing like the person sending this.” 

“It’s just a cartoon emoji, it means they’re waving-”

“-now they’ve sent me chocolate ice cream with a face on it. Wait. That’s not ice cream.”

“Uh, no, that would be a pile of, er, shit. With a, um, face on it.”

“Ambassador, how do I disable this?”

“I mean, you can, but then you’d just have a bunch of weird boxes show up instead of the emoji.”

“This is why technology is unnecessary,” Victoria would say and then toss her phone into the space abyss of her cloak and the Ambassador would quietly hand her a replacement.

7. Do they use chatspeak, or do they grandma text?

Definitely grandma text. She treats text messages as memos, and since we’ve advanced quite a bit since the telegram, she doesn’t see the virtue in omitting any letters.

A picture of her mother’s garden full of blooming tulips and hyacinths, from when she was a little girl. It was a sunny day and behind the rows of flowers you could just make out her father reading a book intently. It was a cookbook. The recipe still didn’t turn out edible.

9. Would they ever pirate stuff?

No. Mostly because she considers it immoral to not show your appreciation for a craft by paying for it. Partly because she doesn’t have any idea how to.

Never. If Fey wants to insult you, she’l do it to your face with her name attached to every word. None of this “anonymous” bullshit.

21. Would they ever make a dating website account, for fun or seriously? If yes, how would it go?

Totally has an OkCupid account. Completely serious but tries to play it off as a joke if anyone catches her. She’s not really happy with it - most people are either too intimidated to say anything, or too unaware to know they should be intimidated. Neither really appeals to her, but she keeps trying.

Mage - The basic level that all who are born with the capability of magician magic start at, and if they do not further study magic, remain at.

Infuser - A mage at this level can take an ordinary object and add magical properties to it from a magic reserve or with the help of a higher level magician.

Mender - Can use magic to fix both nonmagical and magical items with relative ease, restoring them or improving them in the process.

Seeker - Seekers have a developed sense for magical energy and can find objects or hot spots that release strong magic.

Artisan - Artisans can create magical objects using only magical energy and the four elements (earth, air, fire, water), so they can literally make something out of thin air. (Though they prefer it thick.)

Invoker - An Invoker creates magical hotspots by sacrificing items or stitching nearby hotspots found by Seekers together to create something more powerful.

Source - A Source actively help channel magic into machines, a living mix between technology and the mystical. They often also create their own magical objects to help where pure science falls short, and they have to recharge at magical hotspots regularly.

Enchanter - An Enchanter has reached a level of magical study where their spells begin to affect living beings. They no longer have to rely on items for enchantments and illusions but can instead create their own.

Manipulator - Manipulators can draw magical power from the world around them, including from magical objects and from other spells or magical beings. 

Generator - A misnomer as magicians do not generate their own magic, but a Generator-level mage can draw upon magic of the past and future and use it in the present, giving the illusion that they are creating magic from their being.

Everyone else in the universe thinks it’s fucking annoying and Nox puts in the time to learn everything about the mechanics of their spaceship so he can’t feel quite as superior when he starts going and she keeps up with him.

Cierry Dot - Navigator. Young orphan girl with a certifiable obsession for everything that has ever been mapped, and an even bigger desire for everything that hasn’t. Tried to stow away on the ship because ~explorers~, got caught but was allowed to stay on after the current navigator, Jack, pushed to have her as an apprentice.

Jack Uvalle - Jack’s brand of menace to society is that he’s an impostor. He’s not technically a con man because he doesn’t run cons - he just gets bored, frequently, and changes careers, frequently. He usually dives in and does a few weeks of research and that gives him enough know-how to sound authoritative. He has been a school Dean, a news producer, a pediatrician, a heart surgeon (they caught on thirty minutes into the surgery that he’d never opened up a person before), and, most recently, a navigator. He abandons his navigational passion to become a mime three weeks into the magical exploration spaceship voyage, and Cierry takes over with zeal.

Victor Otis - The ship’s mechanic. He is very much of the opinion that magic has no place in science and he can run this entire ship without the help of the magician, and he lets said opinion be known. The magician, Nox, thinks it’s hilarious and riles him up often just to see him turn slightly red trying to explain things to her that she already is intimately familiar with. He doesn’t make friends easily because he has a habit of assuming people are not as intelligent as he is (which is true) and telling them that to their face (which is a dick move).

Soot - A chimney sweep / fortune teller. More accurately, a chimney sweep who uses her unassuming hired help job to spy on the aristocrats on her secluded town on an otherwise barely-inhabited agricultural planet and then swindles them out of tons of money by telling their “fortune”, which is always accurate and insightful and how would she know that my neighbor was planning to throw a big gala but not invite me anyway. Safe to say that Soot has her shit together, and a lot of money to show for it.

Humans go off and colonize another galaxy in the distant future, far enough that Earth history is preserved but is usually regarded as possible myths rather than fact. Humans have developed magical powers and super awesome technology, so there’s been a few new races made. Most notably:

Faeries like Victoria and Fey are born with an innate possession of magic. They are sought out by other of their kind and taught to channel it through music and control it in ways specifically useful to the leader, Madame Organ. It is a chance thing about being born with the ability, and you can tell right away because their eyes are a nearly-glowing pink. If a faerie has a baby that is also by chance a faerie, that’s winning the jackpot twice and they are basically akin to a demigod. For that reason, among many others, faeries are exclusively female - though no one can prove that male faeries don’t get born, they certainly don’t make it long enough for anyone to know they exist. The last year of their mandatory education involves an operation to make sure they can never have children, so an all-powerful faerie cannot be born. (Coincidentally, Madame Organ has been leader of the faeries for many centuries. While their natural lifespan is that of a regular human, 140 years, if there is no suitably powerful heir to the position the magic will keep the current Madame alive until one is born and comes forward.)

Magicians like Nox are born with the capacity for magic. Their eyes are a muted purple. They also go to school, but it’s not nearly as barbaric. They learn a very technical side of magic and brew potions, create sigils, and require very precise hand movements to cast any forms of magic. There is a hierarchy within the magicians and all of them are forced to wear their rank in plain sight on their clothes and uniform. Most cutting-edge technology runs with the help of a Source, which is a certain level of magician, in addition to the technician for the mechanical components. 

Victoria sneezes like a baby goat, in sets of four.

People have learned not to mention it. Ever. Fey always mentions it. At least twice a year. She has a spell she hums to make sure Victoria sneezes around her.

It’s 6 am and she loudly booms “Oh, Boccob, diety of magic and knowledge and all things awesome, it’d be so super great if I could get all of these spells today to help me with my quest to learn more and also to show people why you’re totally sweet, and that definitely benefits both of us and so I’m going to sit quietly soon and absorb your divine energy and also, did you see that I found some really sweet armor? Yeah, totally got that after killing some undead zombies yesterday. I turned them. They evaporated. It was fucking cool. Anyway, send me these spells, you’re the best, kthxbyeeeee.”

Safe to say Boccob’s relationship with her is him going “holy me, yes, whatever you want, just stop talking.”
