Ernestine âTinyâ Davis and Willie Mae âRabbitâ Wong, members of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, in Europe on the USO Tour in the 1940s. There were several lesbians in the band, including Tiny Davis (no mention of Wong as lesbian) but love this pic so much! Tiny on trumpet, Rabbit on baritone sax ⨠#lesbianculture #internationalsweetheartsofshythm #qpoc #blacklesbians #tinydavis
Davis sang with the band, too â check out this clip featuring her vocals and trumpet stylings!
(This alternate version is kind of out of sync but contains the end of the trumpet solo.)
After playing with the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, Davis opened a lesbian club in Chicago with her partner of 40 years, pianist and drummer Ruby Lucas, called Tiny and Rubyâs Gay Spot.
Hereâs a shortened version of a 1989 documentary short about the two of them, Tiny and Ruby: Hell Divinâ Women â featuring Davis jamming on the trumpet with her grandson!
I couldnât find as much on Wong, but she actually survived until June 2016. She was 95.
For more info, check out this cool 2011 Smithsonian interview with some other surviving members of the band.
Thank you for posting a pine cone for reference but Iâd like to see what the bird looks like too, please.
[Image Description: A black color block and pink color block in a vertical row with text that reads âprotect queer jewish people / donât allow antisemitism to exist in queer spacesâ]
Depends on what your definition of antisemitism is.
Is it actual antisemitism or Palestinian people existing and advocating for their human rights?
if itâs not antisemitism it is not covered by the post.
why is âprotect queer jewish peopleâ a red flag to you
if you look at the phrase âprotect queer jewish people and immediately think palestine i have news for you and the news is that youâre who queer jews need to be protected from.
i looked up the source for this and its from an anime where a dude has to keep a constant boner for a month straight or he loses his house
is this the episode where he lost his house
I have not stopped thinking about this even once for the last 8 years

Laika: 1954-1957
Opportunity Rover: 2004-2019
I THOUGHT I WAS DONE BEING HURT BY THIS BUT NOPE. I WAS WRONG.
the idea behind a grim (a big friendly ghost dog) is that because the first soul buried in a burial yard would be its guardian they would bury a Very Good Boy there first so a human wouldnât be stuck at the gate so to speak. so in that way Laika is continuing an ancient tradition of a guardian spirit protecting the souls of everyone who passes after her.

Gender Troubles: The Butches
As encapsulated so perfectly in Alison Bechdelâs âFun Homeâ:
As a butch woman who was once a wee butch girl, I can attest to the sheer power of this.
i think about this video a lot
Wtf is going on
Hey yâall film crew member here. For those of you asking, theyâre running like that to stay out of the shot. For us crew we TRY OUR HARDEST TO NOT GET FILMED. ITâS IMPORTANT. Itâs like playing the floor is lava but with a side of âyouâre firedâ if you lose too many times. Weâll do anythING to not be seen. Duck around corners, dive under tables, jump in the bushes, assume fetal position on the floor, climb trees, get in the robot, hide in the trojan horse, become a vampire, you fuckin name it. My fav game while watching a movie is âguess where the crew is hiding in this shotâ itâs great fun you should try it. The only problem in this particular shot is there is nowhere to hide except behind the camera which IS MOVING REALLY FAST. Why they didnât just leave the room I have no idea. it could be any number of reasons. Time, lack of proper equipment, need to supervise/direct, etc. The real question is how the hell did Gaga not fucking lose it seeing a herd of film nerds scamper desperately in circles behind the camera
Love all the film crew people in the notes sharing their dumb hiding locations

Broke: Barbie's many different careers are a way to sell dolls and accessories to little kids.
Woke: Barbie had every single one of those careers and is an immortal timeless being.
Bespoke: Barbie's different careers are different versions of Barbie from across the multiverse who occasionally swap place with each other or combine into one Barbie.
SO THEREâS SOMETHING YâALL SHOULD KNOW ABOUT...
Attack of the clones
I have often used Barbie to explain Greek mythology, and people laugh until I explain it, and then they get really serious and thoughtful.Â
I say, âThe Greeks ascribed aspects to gods. Apollo had many aspects, but all were Apollo. Heâs like Barbie that way. Sheâs an astronaut, a veterinarian, and a rollerskater, but no matter which of those things she is in the moment, she is always still Barbie. She is Barbie in her aspect as.âÂ
Then people get not only the idea of âaspectsâ of godhood, but also, well, the changeable yet eternal nature of Barbie.Â

someone invents a recipe > their child loves it > they grow up and replicate it for their own child > their child loves it > they grow up and replicate it for their own child > their child loves it > they grow up and replicate it for their own child > their child loves it > (this continues indefinitely)
The funny thing is as a parent you always think, âmine isnât as good as Nana made it.â But your kid adores it and one day will say âit isnât as good as my mama made it but the kids like it.â
and on it goes
and so love is passed down the chain of generations, on and on, from mouth to mouth to heart to heart

Hey since TERFs buried the original, higher quality recording, hereâs the only surviving recording of trans activist Sylvia Riveraâs infamous âY'all Better Quiet Downâ speech, along with full transcription, now free and open on Archive.org. The transphobic fucks can try their best to scrub us from history, but weâre not going anywhere.
