Accessibility and Convenience Are not the Same Thing
A quick note to all my (amazing) able-bodied allies: be careful when talking about the “curb cut effect” in relation to how accessibility affects people. When you mention “prams, buggies, and bicycles” in the same breath as people with mobility aids, you’re conflating “accessibility” with “convenience”.
When disabled people talk about accessibility, we’re talking about “equal access” not “ease of access”. When something isn’t accessible, we’re not mildly inconvenienced; we’re completely excluded. When the lift isn’t working, we can’t get to work. When public transportation isn’t accessible, we’re not troubled; we’re trapped.
This is why our most vocal supporters call themselves “disability rights activists” not “accessibility advocates”. It’s not about the benefits of accessibility; it’s about the direct, long-term harm a lack of accessibility causes.
Most folks don’t realize that the ADA is not a building code, but is in fact a civil rights law. So, the next time you’re explaining how important accessibility is to your able-bodied friends, don’t just focus on how accessibility makes the most common spaces better for everyone.
Focus on how a lack of accessibility excludes disabled people from even the most common spaces.
The Capitol Crawl took place in 1990. People forget how recent it is because photos of it are often in grayscale. That is not accidental. It intentionally creates emotional and intellectual distance. Makes people think it was a long time ago. I am 33 years old today.
I was 5 years old when the ADA radically changed the educational opportunities, and the legal protection afforded me.
Without disabled protesters and abled supporters, the ADA doesn’t exist.
1990. Don’t forget.
I was about the same age: https://urbancripple.com/what-it-was-like-before-the-ada

Murder at Disney
If Edna dissed me like that I’d have to throw my whole self in the trash out of shame.
adulthood really does hit you like a fucking truck when you spent all of your teenage years thinking you were gonna kill yourself eventually,
might be my prudish catholic upbringing jumping out but imho makeup companies shouldn’t name their products after explicit sexual terms
just my opinion but if the makeup industry is going to market towards young girls who haven’t even hit puberty yet and insist that they have hundreds of dollars with of high end makeup then they cannot name their products things like ‘climax’ and ‘super orgasm’ or even make puns like ‘glow job’ or claim in bold letters that the mascara is ‘sex proof’ when these young girls have no idea what any of these terms mean and frankly they shouldn’t understand the meaning behind an eyeshadow called ‘daddy’s girl’ or a blush called deep throat it’s all part of the hyper-sexualization of young girls and it’s just getting worse and worse in this new age of instagram/youtube mua’s where girls as young as 8 years old are being pressured into having a beat face that makes them look my age
but that’s just my opinion
