Bakery AU
Basil nodded his thanks to the server, and took his drink in hand. He was one for nursing a drink, cradling it, coming to know it, even if it was a shoddy bar beer. He just nodded, looking thoughtful. “If you grow herbs, I should make you a meal with them sometime. What do you grow?
"I was never good with plants. Couldn’t keep them alive for more than a few months." Basil pulled a face, and took a swig of his drink. "Do you read about herbology, then?"
"I grow mint and... basil..." Lei tried to cover up his smile, but figured if he kept talking it wouldn't be noticed. "But I grow lots of other plants too. Too many to name."
He tapped the drink again, watching the ice shift in the glass before he pulled it over. His fingers toyed with the straw, and he pressed back against his seat as though he had thoughts of melting against it.
"I do read herbology," he answered. "But I learn better from experience. At least that's how it is with plants."
Finally, he lifted his drink and sipped on it, happy with the taste that assaulted his tongue. It was set down as though he was afraid to part from it. Then he looked to Basil.
"So, why a baker and not a rugby star?" he asked.

For all my roleplay partners:
Never hold your muse back. For real. If your muse wants to lash out at mine, or kiss mine, or tell mine a horrible secret, or slam mine against a wall — go for it. Don’t ever feel like I’ll get your reply and judge you or your muse. Your character has specific feelings, instincts, and desires, and if they want to do something, don’t hold them back. I want to roleplay with your muse in their entirety, the whole truth of your character, not a watered-down version. Never feel nervous — just let it happen as it happens, and it’ll all be great.
Do Not Cross [Lei/Le Chiffre AU]
"Yes." Basil shut the door behind him with a foot. Le Chiffre had come out of his stupor half an hour ago. He was still regaining full control of his abilities, but he seemed relatively unharmed. Basil had decided it would be a good idea to prepare for the letdown, supplementing his boss with fresh sweets to detract from the emotional come-down (or come-up), and any possible munchies the drug might cause.
Basil and Le Chiffre should definitely not eat an entire batch of cookies in one night, however, and chocolate-chip cookies were best served fresh. No use wasting them. Lei had been good, and though he had been denied dinner, that didn’t mean he was necessarily denied dessert. Basil held out the milk and bundle, which contained three fresh, gooey, and handmade confections. He noted with hidden humour the way Lei watched the food, a mix between fervent desire and fright that it might reach out and bite him. “Go on, then.”
He was just the right amount of apprehensive concerning the treats in the bundle. It could have been poisoned (maybe not to kill him, just make him ill), but he had no real worries. Whatever poison it could be, he was likely immune anyway. And he doubted they would go through all this just to kill him.
"...thank you..." he said, loud enough to be heard as shaky hands took hold of the glass and the cookies.
Lei folded the bundle so he could carry it with his teeth, and then he shifted further apart from Basil to eat facing slightly away from him. The cookies were inspected; they were fresh, they didn't smell of anything other than cookie-goodness. Probably safe?
His stomach didn't let him argue. He wolfed down one cookie without even tasting it, and then took his time nibbling on the second. All the while glaring at Basil from the corner of his eye.
âť… Let it Snow âť…
To Lei’s words, Priest only gave a hum of a reply. He smiled at the brush of their noses, his cheeks flushing red at no fault of the weather.
Once actually out in the open, Priest clicked his teeth together, strapping his free arm closer to his body, like that would keep some warmth from escaping him.
Were it not for the squeeze to his hand, Priest would be totally unprepared to break off into a run. As it was, he caught the hint, and with a grin he nodded.
As the two ran down the street, Priest couldn’t help but stare skywards—winter was his favorite time of the year, as the snow made everything beautiful, but he was used to watching the season from inside his apartment where it was nice and warm.
With Lei, though, he had reason to go outside. He wanted to go outside, just to spend time with the other man doing things that couples did, such as going to movies.
Thankfully, the building was close by, and it wasn’t long until they were ducking inside. Priest exhaled, his throat chilled like he’d just swallowed some ice water. His entire body was wracked with shivers, and maybe if he asked nicely Lei would cuddle with him on the couch when they got back. …Or he just wouldn’t ask, and initiate it all on his own.
To the employee Priest flashed two ticket passes, just before being directed to one of the rooms to the left. With a gleeful grin did Priest make his way in that direction, leading Lei along this time.
"We’re pretty early, so I hope you’re fine with watching previews for some time." He glanced back to the blonde man as he entered the theater room where the horror movies would be played.
The abrupt change in temperature was astounding, the heat inside the building taking away the chill of the snowy wonderland they had just stepped out of. He was rubbing his hands and stomping his feet to kick off snow, leaning over to dust some off of Priest as they walked over to show off the tickets.
Priest was then leading him along, with Lei slowing just long enough to see the movie posters that were placed up along the walls. There were titles he'd never seen and likely never see again, unless the two of them returned here again sometime. Lei wasn't much for television or movies, but one or two couldn't hurt.
"I don't mind waiting," he replied.
When they walked past the doors into the dimly lit viewing room, Lei stopped Priest just long enough to cover the other man's ears with his hands. Even through his gloves, he could feel that they were cold. He waited a moment before removing his hands, and gazed out over the ocean of empty seats. There were a few people, here or here, scattered like leaves in autumn. Lei nodded to the back row.
"If we sit in the back, nobody can shoot us," he said, half joking and half serious.

Little Rene
The water was delicious. He stood, looking hesitantly between his glass and the sink. Should he clean the glass? Should he leave it here? Eventually, he decided on bringing it back with him. Then, he could clean it tomorrow, when he got up, and not leave what someone might perceive as a mess.
Best to get back, before Lei became suspicious. He pattered back to the bedroom, holding the glass carefully. Peering around the door, he saw Lei peering at his light-device again. "Thank you, Herr Lei!" He gave a respectful little half-bow, then carefully set the glass on the bedside table and scampered into bed, cuddling under the covers.
Trained eyes darted towards the door long before he'd heard the child's footsteps, and a gleeful expression was ready to greet Rene when he stepped through the doorway. This boy's innocent charm never seemed to end.
"You're welcome?" he answered, wondering what he was being thanked for, but he didn't ask. Regardless, his tone was still pleasant.
He watched Rene dart under the blankets and curl up all cozy and warm, a child that was safe from the dangers of the camps. The blonde ended up flopping back onto his own pillow, eyes directed towards the ceiling.
"Sleep well, Rene," he said, and his own eyes closed. He didn't know when or if sleep would catch hold of him again.
