This is a disturbing image of RA. Did someone use Photoshop to remove the contouring on his face? Looks like he’s had plastic surgery like Kenny Rogers. Perhaps he’s having an allergic reaction and his face is swelling up. Yikes!

I will hit the “Ignore” button for any posts about RA’s private life and other trashy gossip. I just want to look at the pictures and know more about his professional doings.

I promise not to comment on his nose any more.

Feel free to ignore me, too.

Take a cue from his recent interview in the Telegraph:

 His unwillingness to share his private life with the press has led to rumours about his sexuality. I ask him if, in the era of tabloid witch hunts, those in the public eye live with a fear that one day they’ll wake up to find that they’ve become the story, and whether this means having to censor parts of his character in public all the time.

“I think if you’ve got stuff to hide, there’s a level of stress that people live with. I think I read somewhere that someone said I was fiercely protective of my private life, and I thought well, there’s nothing fierce about protecting a private life. I think it’s worth protecting – for everybody, not just high-profile people.”

Does he feel protective of his sexuality? “No, I don’t feel protective about that. I just feel that it’s not relevant to what I’m presenting in terms of my art form. Anything else, any other talk, chatter, rumours, discussion, diverts from the discussion of the art form, and that’s always been my primary focus.”

Here are some highlights:

Call me cynical but I am wary of “do-gooders” who have taken upon themselves the responsibility to tell other people that Richard and Lee’s sexuality is not a proper topic for discussion or that merely talking about it will damage both of their careers or who even demand that certain photos (which are already all over the internet) are deleted from blogs because of “privacy” or “respect” issues. I am wary because it’s ultimately a tactic to negate and shutdown the discourse. It’s a tactic that’s employed by racists and misogynists as well. To feign the “high road” by pretending that we, as a society, are somehow magically beyond racism, misogyny and yes, homophobia, is a way for people to fast-forward through uncomfortable truths about themselves. 

The buzzwords of course. Call me a peasant, but I think it’s more homophobic to turn real human beings into your ship merely because OMGGAYYY and you see them spend time together in scant photographs. 

Or quite specifically, at those of us who have merely contained our Richlee urges to our own blogs with accurate tagging so people are not inadvertently exposed to our “debauchery.” 

I like how debauchery is in quotes. As if they’re not creepy freaks who’ve turned real people into their dildo material. 

I realize that to be a fanatic is to be absolute in your convictions but I have to say that I’m rather surprised that there are still some people who – even when faced with these latest photos of Lee and Richard together with family – are still convinced that there is 0% chance that they are something more than friends. Not even a sliver of a doubt which leads me to believe that there may be something deeper and less tolerant going on; a worldview that has nothing to do with Tumblr or even with Richard or Lee.

YOU DON’T MINDLESSLY POLICE THE RELATIONSHIP STATUS OF STRANGERS? HOMOPHOBE. 

That is one of the most noxious of these posts I’ve ever seen. The self-righteousness is overwhelming. So far I haven’t seen the intersection of social justice with real life people shipping, mostly because Larry fans aren’t usually well-versed in critical theory and Butlerian gender performativity, but now I have with that diarrhetic nightmare of an essay. That person doesn’t seem well-versed n much of anything, mind you, other than mindlessly shooting off sj buzzwords at naysayers of her personal wank material - in this case real fucking people - but it’s a slightly higher grade of insanity. I didn’t know the celebrity shippers could actually churn something like that out.
