(my) Life is so Random

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

First of all, Angelina is perfect in it. The tone, the looks, the acting, just perfection. And boy did I miss seeing her face up close on the big screen. The rest of the cast was fine, Sam riley in particular, and little maleficent too, but honestly Angelina outshines everyone else. The visuals were equally nice and they did a good use of the 3D which is not very often the case. The scenes with Vivienne were really cute and the little touches of humor very apreciated. 

I think the most important thing when you go and see this movie is to forget about the original 1950s Sleeping Beauty because those are in the end two different stories, not only the untold story of one character. The original was my jam as a child and a couple of times yesterday I went “Wait… that’s not what happens”. So were we lied to with the previous story? It’s still a bit confusing to me and to the little girl who was watching it on repeat.

Moving on to the main issue I had with the movie, as an Angelina fan: this is a Disney movie. And you get that from the very start when the narration begins, and then it never goes as dark, as deep or as evil as it could (should?) have been for my taste. I found this Maleficent pretty tame compared to the original one (in terms of evilness). But again, I understand this is a family friendly movie and quoting the little boy sitting behind me when the act that makes Maleficent turn evil happens: “see mommy, that’s why she’s mean, that’s not her fault” (for real!), so props to the writer, the kids got it.

Overall I would recommend seeing what is a good movie with a nice plot, some action, fantasy, humor and visually impeccable. But mostly for Angelina Jolie, a perfect casting and the reason I’ll watch it again. I am still a bit unsure of Disney’s strategy of making movies about vilains to redeem them/make them more likeable but that is probably just my evil side talking.
