Some Malec because itâs my hyperfixation now. All about Magnusâ lovely cat eyes and Alec loving them.
Alec doesnât mean to stare.
Theyâre in Magnusâs loft, lights dimmed low, the city bleeding neon through the windows. Magnus is halfway through explaining something arcane and irritatingly complicated when his glamour flickersâjust for a second.
Magnus stops mid-sentence.
ââŚYou saw that,â Magnus says carefully.
Alec blinks, then nods. His grip tightens on the strap of his bow like heâs grounding himself.
There it is. The moment Magnus has lived through a hundred times before. The flinch. The fear. The polite pretending not to notice.
Except Alec doesnât step back.
Instead, his eyes light up.
âWait,â Alec says, voice rising just a little. âCan youâcan you do that again?â
Magnus stares. âDo⌠what?â
âThe eyes,â Alec says, breathless now. âThey wereâwow.â
Magnus laughs once, sharp and disbelieving. âAlexander, most people donât say âwowâ when they realize their boyfriend is a centuries-old warlock.â
Alec steps closer. âI already knew that part.â
He reaches out, slow, giving Magnus time to pull away. He doesnât.
âI just didnât know you were⌠that beautiful.â
Magnusâs glamour slips fully this time.
Gold eyes gleam in the low light.
Alec smiles like heâs just been given a gift.
It happens accidentally the next time.
Theyâre sparringâbadly, because Alec is distracted and Magnus keeps making commentary he absolutely does not need. Magnus laughs, throws up a shield, andâ
Alec notices immediately.
He stops mid-motion. Lowers his weapon.
Magnus sighs. âSorry. Long day.â
âDonât,â Alec says quickly.
Magnus frowns. âDonât what?â
âDonât apologize,â Alec says. Then, softer: âI like when you look like that.â
Magnus tilts his head. âYou like it.â
Alec nods, entirely unapologetic. âYeah. Itâs you. More you.â
Magnusâs voice goes quiet. âMost people ask me to hide it.â
Alec steps into his space, close enough that Magnus has to look at him.
âWell,â Alec says, âmost people arenât dating you.â
Magnus lets the glamour stay gone.
Not announced. Not discussed formally. Just⌠noticed.
Alec will glance up from cleaning weapons and say, casually, âYour eyes are gold again.â
Magnus will pause. âIs that a problem?â
Alec will shrug. âNope. Just wanted to let you know I see them.â
Sometimes Alec will tease.
âYou know,â he says one evening, leaning against the counter while Magnus cooks, âyou donât have to glam up around me.â
Magnus smirks. âCareful, Shadowhunter. You might get the full package.â
Alecâs mouth quirks. âPromise?â
Magnus turns, startledâthen laughs, real and warm.
Alec watches like itâs his favorite show.
At a Downworlder gathering, Magnusâs glamour is flawless. Perfect. Polished.
Alec is stiff at his side, uncomfortable but trying.
Someone brushes past Magnus too closely. Someone looks too long.
Magnus feels the familiar instinctâto conceal, to smooth, to make himself palatable.
Then Alec leans in and murmurs, barely audible:
âYou donât have to hide.â
Alecâs hand finds his, squeezes once. Steady. Certain.
âI think they should see how lucky I am.â
The glamour slipsânot dramatically, not defiantly. Just honestly.
Gold eyes catch the light.
If anyone stares, Alec doesnât care.
Thatâs my boyfriend, his posture says. Deal with it.
Later. Night. Loft windows open to the city.
Magnus sits on the couch, glamour gone, eyes glowing faintly in the dark.
Alec traces a thumb beneath one eye, careful, reverent.
âYou know,â Alec says, âwhen I first saw them, I thought Iâd be scared.â
âAnd then I thought,â Alec continues, âthat if this is part of you, I want all of it.â
âNo oneâs ever said that to me.â
Alec leans in, forehead resting against Magnusâs.
âIâll say it as many times as you need,â he promises. âYou donât have to be less magical to be loved.â
Magnus smilesâsoft, undone, eyes shining gold.
For once, he doesnât hide a thing.
