Zoe shook her head and shrugged, turning her eyes up to the sky with a thoughtful hum as she considered it. Living in a world where losing control of her abilities was more physically embarrassing than privately scary and unfair to others.Â
âOh I present the illusion I can utilize this?â Zoe said with a pleased tone, rolling her eyes back to Randall. âOh good. Still, that would be interesting- to see if your control can do anything with mine, and meanwhile Iâd be sprouting neon eyebrows every time I got stressed.â
Randall was reminded of how precious his status as a metamorphagus was to him after any extended mentioning of it. Not only was it something he was prideful of, but it was an edge he had over other members of the Puri. It made him useful and desirable, two of his favorite things.Â
âEven I wouldnât sport those with class. Not that morphing is influenced by emotion anyhow. At least, not in my experiences. If it was, Iâd be unwillingly displaying Professor Desmondâs scowl every time I was annoyed. Which is always.â
Zoe sighed unhappily at his answer. It wasnât like there was something concrete to her own dubious gift that she could practice. Or, maybe she could, but the thought of purposely manipulating her pheromone levels for gain made something panicked claw at her throat at her stomach rolled. No, she didnât think so. âSo does your appearance ever change without your realizing? Or did it use toooooo- oh.âÂ
She trailed off, huffing out a surprised breath as she was suddenly staring at a completely different person. âHoly shit.â Zoe swore with a laugh, blinking and making sure she wasnât staring anymore- she didnât like it when people did it to her, she doubted Randall would appreciate it either. âTen out of ten Chen, that is seriously cool. If I come up with some way to trade our abilities, would you be willing?â She joked.
He smiled sincerely as he watched the initial disappointment on her face transform into sheer amazement, a feeling Randall never got sick of granting others.Â
He twirled the hair of the Gryffindor girl he had morphed into before quickly changing back to himself, fixing his own hair once completely returned to himself. âCertainly not. Even if you managed to discover a channel to such a switch, you wouldnât know how to properly utilize this ability. And I with yours.â
Fletcher wasnât really up for another fight. It was just so draining; with everything going on, he was just so tired. But then Randall reached out to touch his face. Of course the Hufflepuff flinched; it was unexpected contact, and the older boyâs hand was surprisingly gentle. He didnât break eye contact, as his skin burst into goosebumps where his hand trailed and he had swallow whatever hesitation was starting to overcome.
He didnât know how to react. Hell, he didnât even know what to think of thisâŚsudden contact. But Randall apologized, and it was only fair that Fletcher did too. âItâs okayâŚI got a little worked up about things too. IâmâŚI apologize for my actions.â
âYou mean to the cats, right? We were talking about catsâŚ? Get it? Throw your advice to theânever mind.â It was a good opportunity for a joke, but ill-timed nonetheless. Shrugging, she sat down to watch the chess pieces, just in time to see the pawn fall. âI suppose itâs for the best.â
He scoffed at the joke, rolling his eyes. âLeave comedy to the professionals, darling. You arenât doing it any justice.â His lips curved into a thin smile upon the last of his opponentâs pieces shattering across the board, a signal of victory for him. âIf it is best for you, it is for the best. In my so humble opinion.â

Helen laughed at Randallâs reasoning with himself to help her. âI canât say itâs anything very clever or thoughtful, but as far as playing a joke, this is the best I could come up with. Thanks for agreeing to do thisâ It will require some time, just so, you know, you can learn Marcusâ habits and quirks and things. Then I should subtly sell to Cam that Iâve been sneaking around and hanging with Marcus a little more. Weâll put this plan into action in two weeks? The next Hogsmeade weekend then?â
Randall felt a shiver run down his spine at the mere thought of having to mirror his persistently annoying roommate, but would make due to assist the girl. He imagined himself actively avoiding any reflections during. âYou underestimate my skills, young Bennet. Give me a weekâs time, it will be sufficient enough to learn Ionaâs behaviors. Weâre going to give Cameron one hell of a time, you can guarantee so.âÂ

The boyâs ears perked up at the mention of a favor. The memory of what she was speaking of came to him quickly and he remembered it vividly. He didnât often allow others to be in a position of power over himself, but he was more than willing to assist his newfound friend of sorts.
âI do recall. At long last youâve come to redeem your coupon, I was wondering if youâd ever make use of it. Iâm listening.â Randall leaned in towards the girl, granting her his full attention.
Her fear that Randall might not hold up to his words that she thought might have been spoken in jest seemed to ease slightly as he was eager to hear it. âIâve never been one to really play pranks or do things like thatâŚBut I think itâs time thatâs changed. The only issue is that I hope you wouldnât mind possibly getting in a cross with two of your roommates?â Helen offered an innocent smile.
âCamâs the victim of choice and it would entail you changing into Marcus?â Helen explained. âItâd also involve, well, pretend dating meâ Just for a day!â She quickly added. âFor some reason, something or other that even I donât know, Cam detests Marcus. But Iâd like to think he likes me more than he hates him. So, if I was say, dating, Marcus, and I wanted my best friend Cameron Elliot and my âboyfriendâ to get along, Iâd have all three of us spend a day in Hogsmeade together. Iâd ask the real Marcus, but Iâd be a little embarrassed to tell him that Cam hates him.â Helen looked up to Randall with a hopeful expression. âIs this something youâre interested in?â
A toothless grin sprawled itâs way across the Slytherinâs face before he laughed in a huff. âHelen, one of the few joys I partake in is tormenting my roommates. When they deserve it of course, no foul play.â Randall wondered if his lying was as convincing as his morphing.
He repeated her proposition to himself as to make sure he understood entirely. âMyself, disguised as that blabbering Iona? Fake courting you, whilst intentionally pushing all of Cameron Elliotâs buttons?â His hand has moved to his chin, stroking in contemplation. âWhile your plan is not something I would have cooked up myself, Iâd be happy to assist you. After all, a promise is a promise. Also, my window of time to pester Cam is closing quickly and I cannot allow this to pass.â
âSo youâre in perfect control? All the time?â She asked with vivid interest. If he wasnât going to ask her more questions in a timely fashion, she couldnât be expected to wait on him. She was burning with curiosity. She was playing her hand a bit too openly now, she knew. It was a touch too obvious how the question reflected on her own abilities. âIf so, has that always been the case?âÂ
She looked him up and down, peering at what she assumed to be his natural appearance, and took a small stumble of a step forward, watching Randallâs face. âProve it.â She said eagerly, before she could convince herself not to. âI donât think Iâve ever seen you change. Turn in to someone we know. Iâll judge your performance and tell you if youâre as good as you say you are.â
He hesitated to answer, knowing good and well his method wasnât entirely perfect. Much like the effects of a Polyjuice potion, Randallâs morphing couldnât last forever. he had extended his endurance over the years, but nearly always needed to slip away for hours at a time to allow his cells to recover.Â
âOf course Iâm not in total control. While my morphing is a gift, it functions more like a talent does. It takes constant practice and I havenât had nearly enough years to apply myself.â Eager to impress, Randall stood up and struggled to think of the last person that passed him in the halls. When she popped into his head, he morphed immediately, even going as far to smile as joyously as the girl always did.
Shreya might have rolled her eyes a little at that sentiment, but for a moment, she might have actually believed Randall. âIâm pretty sure she kisses that cat in places you wouldnât want to be touched until the first date Randall. So itâs a good thing youâre saying no, for once. I might be mean, but Iâm not pimp you out like that.â Shreya cringed. God no, she didnât need that image in her head. âYou know what? Iâm going to own up to it. Besides, the cat is probably out doing itâs thing, you know? Being itâs own self, rocking out with other cats. Right?â
âYou must be exhausted constantly from worrying about such minimal things, darling. My suggestion is to let the scene play out without interference. If the cat wants to come back, it will do so on itâs own.â Randall went back to playing wizard chess against the board, his knight knocking another into several pieces. âBut knowing you, youâll likely throw my well-intentioned advice to the dogs.â

âMy tongue will stay where it needs to stay.â Fletcher shrugged, setting up his parchment and ink well, as he tried searching for his quill. Briefly wondering why Randall wouldnât exactly look at him, the Hufflepuff touched his nose for an instant. It was good as new, but if he stroked it at the right spot, there was a place where it wasnât quite right. Like a momento from the moment or something. Catching himself staring absently at Randallâs newspaper, he quickly averted his gaze and straightened up.
Curious to see how the boy would proceed, Randall only allowed one eye to pop up from above the paper, just in time to see the Hufflepuffâs fingers reaching for his schnoz. Much like a snake does with a mouse, Randall decided to play with his prey.
He stood up and walked briskly up to Fletcher, half expecting him to flinch. Without a word, he reached up and rubbed the spot he had just been fiddling with. âDamaged are we, Garrod? Such a shame, when I let my anger pilot my flesh. Iâm not typically so...aggressive.â Randallâs hand moved down from the boyâs nose, brushed his jawline, and crawled down his torso, removed just before he hit waistline.Â
Peas In A Pod // Randall and Takahiro
It wasnât unusual to find Hiro outside his dorm or common room. In fact, it was rare to actually find him in them. He wanted to spend as much time away from the hassle that is his housemates as possible, and what better way to do that then a nice walk outside? It was still cold out, so he knew thereâd be much fewer people wandering the grounds.Â
His hood was covering his head, and his hands were kept warm in the pocket of his thick coat as he walked. He hadnât even realized that there was another person nearby until a voice spoke, causing him to stop in his tracks. His hands raised to lift his hood a bit, until he saw a familiar face. âThe common roomâs crowded. The grounds arenât,â he replied simply, taking a few steps closer to the older. âWhat about you? Shouldnât you be off messinâ with a few first years?â
Randall let his head fall back onto the stone wall behind him, half laughing to agree with Hiro. âI most often enjoy the seclusion of my common room, but it has been infested with groups of the younger children in useless study groups. Doing more idle talk than bookwork.â
He caught glance of a bench that sat several hundred feet away, but only for another moment. With a swish of his wand, the bench flew across the grounds and landed to sit right before the pair. âCare to take a seat? The flat ground takes such a toll on my feet.â Randall sat, crossing one leg over the other.

It was exciting. Not one part of Helen was regretting anything she was going to ask. She didnât know the last time she pulled anything like this and could only hope everything would work out. And asking Randall to be a part of thisâ She was trusting him fully. She knew before sheâd thought he mightâve been linked to Puri activities or something, but as she slowly got to know him, she found more of a friend in him.
Helen smiled at Randall as she leisure stepped towards him. She wasnât sure what he was doing, but she was fine to ignore it and get right to what she needed. âWell, as I last recall, you agreed to a favor for me.â She stopped walking once she stood right in front of him. âAnd I think I would finally like to take you up on it, if youâd be so willing?â Helen prompted her request with a uncharacteristic mischievous smile.
The boyâs ears perked up at the mention of a favor. The memory of what she was speaking of came to him quickly and he remembered it vividly. He didnât often allow others to be in a position of power over himself, but he was more than willing to assist his newfound friend of sorts.

Since they talked it out, Helen and Cam were okay. Not the same, but they were okay. But as Helen sat in the front of the Advanced Arthimacy, seats away from Cam so she could actually pay attention, she found herself thinking about him anyways. There was an odd imbalance, she felt. There wasnât anything Helen could in good conscience do, but an idea suddenly came to her in that moment. Something that didnât fix the imbalance, but she could see that it would tilt a little more in her favor. And she thought maybe the fun harmlessness of it would be good for them.
So after class, Helen waved him goodbye with a plausible excuse and went in search of Randall Chen. She couldnât find him in the common room and so she went off to search areas she could imagine the other Slytherin being in.
It was only after half an hour that she finally spotted Randall in a corridor, looking out down the window at what Helen knew to be just above the Courtyard. âChen,â Helen let out a relieved breath, âJust the man I was looking for.â
The Slytherin boy had just finished testing a rather nasty green potion on the weeds that grew abundantly about the courtyard. To his delight, mere drops of the concoction was enough to clear out each and every crevice of the squared off area. As it was one of his favorite places to sit and contemplate, Randall couldnât have it appearing anything shy of decent.
He capped the remaining liquid and placed it in his extendable bag, peering up to see that of Helen Bennet. Since their first encounter, he had wondered what it was about her that interested him. Because it wasnât that she had the makings of a Puri recruit or that he found her sexually appealing, Randall had marked her a cold case for the time being.
âBennet, always a pleasure. Whatever could you need me for?â
Peas In A Pod // Randall and Takahiro
Graduation from the miserable excuse for a school that was Hogwarts was all Randall could think about lately. He was bored to death over the course material that he found useless, exhausted of seeing the same stupid faces day in and day out, and was even starting to become less comforted by the damp call of the dungeons. The Puri beckoned him and the sooner he was out, the sooner he could properly answer.
To stir his day up, the boy made the odd choice of sitting out on the grounds near hedges the gamekeeper had been neglecting all of winter. He was easily concealed, but assumed he gave off an aura that made other students steer clear of the area. It wasnât until his good friend from Hufflepuff of all houses stumbled across his path that he spoke for the first time all day.
âWhat brings you out on a delightfully, sunshiney day like this, Hiro?â he asked rolling his eyes at himself.

âI donât really care what you think of anything, actually. I had a lot of time to think about that.â Fletcher was calm; surprisingly channeling Donaldâs coping mechanism. âIâm going to do some work here, and you can read your Daily Prophet. Unless you want to start another fight, Iâm alright over here.â
âFor someone with such a handsome face, you sure do ruin it when you open that mouth of yours.â Randall flipped the page, still refraining from actually looking at Fletcher. âYou may stay I suppose. If you keep that tongue in check. As in, trapped inside your mouth.â
âYou are a heartless monster, arenât you? Youâre going to find cat litter on your bed one day and I will whisper âKarmaâ in your ears, Chen.â What was it with kids and their attachment to pets anyway? Shreya owned a goldfish when she was their age, and she was fine without it. Sitting back down on the couch, her mind whizzed in the many directions she could still run from the scene. âDo you reckon we could just duplicate a cat or something?â
âMy dear, Shreya, your words hurt me. And yes, contrary to popular belief, I can feel the sting of pain.â Randall understood the bond between humans and their animal companions, Sher Khan being one of the closest allies he possessed. What he didnât understand was how someone elseâs lost animal was any of his concern. âAre you capable of doing so? I can mimic a catâs features, but not entirely. Even if I could, I wouldnât. Iâd end up some play thing for one of those nasty first years.â
