Simon desperately wants to fix the mistake he made when he gave his magic to the Mage, hoping that the transfer would kill the Humdrum once and for good. And it did, at the cost of expelling all magic from the World of Mages.Â
The sudden lack of magic loosened the Mageâs grip on power. With Simonâs help, the Mage devised a plan to try and bring magic back, but, three years later, nothing theyâve done has worked. Instead, the Mage is using Simon to help strengthen his political position by making him sleep with influential mages, both as reward and blackmail.Â
It's an exhausting existence, especially since, other than the Mage and his men, the only people who know what Simonâs become are those who share his bed. He doesnât want to be this person, but he also doesnât know where else to go, and who might be forced to take his place if he were to escape.
Then, Baz breaks into Simonâs hotel room.

Brim hat design for Tetia based on her desire to have a hat with two cones! The brim is made of clouds like her special spell, and a Brush Buddy plus Brush Bully because I love them â€ïž I also painted her hair using the same brush as the Starry Night Coco dress. Her curly waves gave off that flowy Van Gogh vibeâš

olruggio of the torch and olly are two different people.
olruggio of the torch is his public persona. that's what this panel is depicting. it's an act, he's putting on a show. he's peeking out from behind the curtain.
I've been working on several projects, but they're all for fests, and two have to remain secret until September. đ
But here's a snippet from my COBB fic (which should get posted next weekend):
âOh. Hey, Niall, turns out Snow is here. Wait, were you two fighting?â Dev asks me suspiciously.
âWe were just talking,â I lie, grateful for the fact that I canât blush. Snowâs face is a worrying share of red.
âHmm,â Niall hums, clearly unconvinced. âSnowâs got a red mark on his neck, and heâs all roughed up. I know you two donât have the best record when it comes to getting along, but I thought you both agreed on this truce. I mean, why are you getting married, by the way? I know heâs a bloke, but you could have picked someone better.â
âHey!â Snow protests. âFor the greater good,â I reply, deciding that this is not the right moment to confess that Iâve been in love with Snow for almost a decade. I need to tell him first.
And here's a bit of my orufrey fic featuring trans Qifrey:
Olruggio did like touching him there. He liked touching Qifrey pretty much anywhere.
It was Olruggio who came up with the binding spell. He remembers the myriads of iterations of it. A little tighter, a touch bigger. The bandages that Qifrey used at the beginning were soon replaced by the snug fabric with Olruggioâs spell on it. He adjusted the seal so many times over the years, to make sure it would look flat without hurting Qifrey. He wonders now if his best friend lied to him. If he wears it too tight for the sake of being in a constant state of discomfort.
Olruggio even kept his binding spell going while they were in hospital and Qifrey was asleep, drawing the seal on the bandages to offer his friend the dignity that the doctors had taken away in his state of unconsciousness.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the Wednesday tag, @fiend-for-culture, and thanks folks for the tags on Sunday. It is neither Wednesday nor Sunday, but I thought Iâd pop on and share!
Iâve posted two fics since I last did a WIP update! Love in the Time of Back Aches, an indulgent friends to lovers firstprince fic in which I gave Henry my period awfulness, and Heavy Are the Hands That Youâre Free to Slip Right Through, a Shrinking season one AU featuring Baz and Malcolm and Fiona. (And Simon gets a shoutout, because it felt wrong to omit him entirely.)
As for what Iâm working on right now, I have two snowbaz oneshots with strong concepts that I want to tackle at some point. Iâm also, admittedly, thinking ahead to Carry On Countdown and firstprince week⊠which are both at least two months away, but I like having prompts to work with. And in the case of Countdown, I feel like I might wanna write most of my oneshots in October-November because in December, weâre going to be inundated with RWRB things galore. I guess weâll see, food for thought, etc etc.
That was quite the preamble, leading up to the statement that Iâm currently writing a silly 3 + 1 jayvik fic. Sentences below:
âAre you⊠dyeing your hair?â
Viktor pouts, setting his brush down and moving on to the next handful of hair. âViolet told me this is standard protocol in the wake of a breakup.â
Jayce startles a bit. Embarrassingly, his first thought is Viktorâs breaking up with me, nevermind the fact that theyâve been strictly friends for three years. Friendship breakups are a thing, okay?
âYou never told me you were seeing someone.â
âIâm not.â Viktor raises an eyebrow. Itâd be more effective if he didnât have black smudges all over his forehead. âProfessor Nells didnât give me the override for Quantum Physics II, apparently because I am attempting to ârush my degree.â The degree should proceed at my pace, not vice versa, no? Quantum Physics I would be aâŠâ
âWaste of your time,â Jayce supplies.
âI thought that would be overly aggressive, but yes.â
âThat sucks, man. Still not a breakup.â
âIâm applying for a different advisor. Technically speaking, a relationship ended today.â
Holy cow, this post got long. Love yâall and stay cool in the heat. Tags under the cut. â€ïž
Thank you to @thewholelemon and @monbons for the tags! I've actually been better tracking the books Iâve read this yearâŠ
Number of books youâve read so far: 34 so far (with 5 in various stages of progress), but at least 14 of those were manga.
Best book youâve read so far in 2026: Oh geez, best?? Iâve read several that were very good. I guess the book I was surprised to like as much as I did was Dungeon Crawler Carl (the narration was especially good).
Best sequel youâve read so far in 2026: I really enjoyed The Missing Page by Cat Sebastian, which is a sequel to Hither, Page. These books were real comfort reads for me, and Cat has been solidified as an author I will likely start buying on release.
New release you havenât read yet but want to: The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow. I listened to a brief snip and I have enjoyed the narratorâs (Moira Quirk) work before, so that hooked me, but also it just sounded lovely from the start.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: Iâm not sure whatâs coming out later this year. I can say I am excited to read Greer Stothersâ next book (The Ignoble Invasion of Prince Proculo) as well as Cat Sebastianâs next one (Washed Up)⊠but I think theyâre both 2027. Oh! I am very much looking forward to the next volume of Witch Hat Atelier, which will release this year (though not until December).
Biggest surprise favorite new author (debut or new to you): Definitely Greer Stothers. I started the year off by reading Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die and was so pleased with it.
Newest fictional crush: I think itâs Qifrey, with Beldaruit in close second. Both of Witch Hat Atelier. Theyâre such good dads, okay?
Book that made you cry: After Hours at Dooryard Books and Project Hail Mary both made me very emotional. Iâm not sure I fully cried, which is good for PHM, because like Jenny I was also driving while listening.
Most beautiful book youâve gotten so far this year: I found the Afterlight edition of Star Shipped by Cat Sebastian on Pango Books and was thrilled. Itâs so gorgeous. I also just ordered the first Witch Hat Atelier grimoire and I cannot wait to hold the stunning art in my hands, but it is not here yet.
Book that made you happy: All of the Cat Sebastian books Iâve read this year (After Hours, Star Shipped, Page & Sommers), as well as the Witch Hat books, and Project Hail Mary (lovely friendships do feature heavily in most of theseâŠ)
What books do you want to read by the end of the year? Here are my most anticipated library holds: Network Effect by Martha Wells (highly recommend Murderbot Diaries, A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers, The Disabled Tyrantâs Beloved Pet Fish by Xue Shan Fei Hu, and Thirty Love by Tom Vellner (thanks for the recs, Jenny)!
Worst Book this Year: I havenât read a book I strongly disliked this year, but I have actually DNFâd a few. Most recently, The Devils by Joe Abercrombie. It was recommended to me, and the concept sounded fun, but I couldnât do it.
Okay! Now I have to tag people⊠No pressure, and also please share if you see this and want to! @fiend-for-culture @ileadacharmedlife @leithillustration @yakichoufd @yellobb
Thanks for the recent tags @thewholelemon and @leithillustration. It's been a while since I've posted an update, but I figured I might as well since the month is almost over and I posted some pretty elaborate art this month.
In case you missed it:
* Pride Month Proposal
* The World's Cutest Lemonade Stand for @thewholelemon's birthday
* Snowbaz Meets Rainbow! (Rainbow *loved* this so much. It made me very happy.)
Some doll previews and some thoughts on sentences under the cut if you're interested.
STITCHES
I have settled on a COC concept, which is--somehow--even more elaborate and ambitious than the past two years. There is no way I will finish in time unless I become a literal doll factory, so I've spent a vast majority of my first three weeks of summer sewing. Here are some fun, in progress previews, including a tiny, fully lined waist coat, my first Dryad, and a sorcerer's fancy jacket!
SENTENCES
God, I miss being able to write. As @leithillustration mentioned in a recent post, writing original stuff is so.much.harder. I've been spinning my wheels on the same 6k words for weeks. Every time I sit down, I hate everything I've written AND the fact that I have to write at all---which is making me start to wonder if maybe this isn't for me? Like, is this just what it feels like to write a book and I need to persevere, get to know my characters, and eventually words will come? Or is this a sign from the universe that I like writing fics, and have no business writing books? I don't know.
Either way, the first time I got excited for ANY writing in the recent past was after I finished reading The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow. The whole time I was reading, I kept thinking, "this would make an excellent Snowbaz AU." I even started plotting it a bit and drafted the opening chapter, but I no longer have the hubris of my early fic writing days and realized very quickly what a daunting task it would be to AU-ify a NYT bestseller đ (I still cannot believe I wrote an AU of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue as my third fic EVER. The audacity. lol)
In any case, here are too many sentences of that because someone should see them. Pink is taken directly from the inspiring work. Lemme know if this is worth pursuing!
It begins where it endsâin the Wavering Wood.
The wood looms at the outskirts of town like a dragon of old, its towering trees and unruly underbrush knit so tight that the sun is a stranger to the forest floor. Year after year, the wind howls with rage and storms rend and uproot. Still, the beast crouches, a wild thing, safeguarding her treasure. For at the heart of the wood is an ancient yew, and its gnarled branches curl protectively around the winged hilt of a waiting sword.
You already know the name of that sword, I think. Who doesnât?
They say there is a strange magic, in the wood. They say many things are lost there among the knot of trees: years, hearts, lives. But they say, too, that some things are found: fates and fortunes, beginnings and endings.Â
And, once, a child. You know his name, too.Â
He was just a wee thing when the goatherd found him, as red-faced and mewling as any babe when first struck by the harsh coldness of the world. The goatherdâs nannies sometimes birthed kids in fields far from home. A human woman was no nanny, but any creature could grow confused. She waited that first day, the wee one bundled tightly in her arms. She waited a second day. And a third. A fourth, even. No one ever came, so the child became hers.
Anyway, hellos, high-fives, and good wishes. May your creative pursuits bring you only joy and no headaches!
Hello honey bees! Happy last Sunday of Pride Month! how are you? It's been a while. I feel like I've been on a mental roller coaster, not because of anything I can put my finger on but just because that is how it is sometimes, but I also feel like I'm starting to settle out in a positive way. Here's hoping.
I've been traveling and instead of doing useful things like unpacking or doing laundry, I was thinking about Simon making fun of Baz's terrible date at the British Museum from Carry On, and started wondering--what if he'd said that out loud instead of in his head? What would that change?
Then I took out a copy of the ebook from the library and started rewriting that entire section of Chapter 60 just for fun. We'll see if I can keep my inspiration going or if it evaporates once I figure out what time zone I'm in and what day it is.
Tags and snippet below. Pink is copy/paste canon, which I've been incorporating throughout.
âOh, piss off,â I tell him. I wonder if this is why heâs never had a girlfriend. âThis is probably why youâve never had a girlfriend. Because youâd take her on dates to the library, then insist on sitting there creepily while she ate dinner alone.â
He looks at me for a solid thirty seconds. He looks so surprised I think heâs forgotten to raise his eyebrow. Finally he says, âThis isnât a date, Snow.â
I sputter. âI knowâI didnâtââ
âDid you want it to be a date?â
âFuck off, Baz, you knew what I meant.â
How are you? What are you up to? feel free to hit me in the comments if you don't have an entire post in you today! @grynve here are my recs for you--all my favorite people:
