The unfortunate implications this has on consent

Especially when a community is composed of people who have felt invalidation and rejection (both real and imaginary) throughout their lives and felt deeply hurt by it, so they try to create a space where no one ever feels rejected or invalidated. This appeals to those traumatized by systemic racism/segregation/discrimination, as well as the impotent rage of entitled males who don’t think girls should be allowed to reject their sexual advances. All these feelings are lumped together and treated as equally justified and important. The feelings themselves are seen as proof of cruelty and oppression, so it’s morally unacceptable to ever do something that results in another person having those feelings.

So being a good person = always making other people feel included/valid, being a bad person = doing anything that results in another person feeling excluded/invalid.

Many people drawn to these communities are highly sensitive to perceived rejection, do not accept responsibility for their feelings, and do not accept that people have the right to set boundaries. They want these communities to be an escape from boundaries, from ever feeling rejected. So they’re willing to invest a lot of effort attempting to negotiate the inevitable issues that arise within that philosophy, because the alternative is accepting that other people have the right to reject them, and they aren’t sure anyone will choose to include them if it isn’t mandated by a moral code.

They do not care about us. They see us as props and as shields. They don’t want us to have any independence from them because they know that as soon as the general public stops believing that their movement is an extension of the gay rights movement, it’ll crumble apart. They want to keep us as good little subservient allies to prop up their cause, and keep us believing that we owe them unconditional support, while they offer no support in return at best, and are actively homophobic at worst.

then 'nuance' and 'both sides of the stories matter'

go on an aimless bike/ride/walk - move your body, do it for as long as you feel like it, discover new places near you weather that is a frog or a cafe

watch a new movie/read a new book/listen to a new album - get inspired, excercise having opinions and longer attention span, break out of consuming content and make a choice about what you want to expirience

create something in a medium i haven't used in a while - get out of a habit, rekindle a flame you haven't been upkeeping, making a friendship bracelet counts

go have a fun new drink/snack - arguably most important, have a little treat without rush, slow down and focus on physical sensations, treat yourself in a way that isn't landfillcore

meet with friends and/or go to a place where you meet strangers - human connection is good for you, (maybe some casual sex if you like that/try something new with your partner)

make some bad art - create for the sake of creating without any expectations

play an instrument - this can be anything that makes you reach a kind of flow state

go see something you haven't yet - get to know the cultural/geographical map of your area, this includes events, places, or just anything that makes you go out of your way to expirience something new, can be like a viewpoint or it can be a museum exhibit, anything you find cool
