the very idea that an identity will crumble to dust if it is ‘invalidated’ i think reveals the constructed nature of that particular identity. for instance, i don’t need anybody to validate my identity as a gay man because i AM a gay man. by my very nature i’m sexually inclined toward men and if tomorrow i were to forget everything i know i would still be sexually attracted to the male sex and my brain and body would respond in that way. it is the simple, brute reality of my existence and whether or not that is confirmed by those around me does not negate the inescapable reality of it all. i don’t have to worry about my ‘identity’ being valid because its reality is not contingent on how/what i or others feel/believe about it.

A male physician tried to pressure me into letting him put my IUD in! He was so adamant about it, and had this sick smile plastered on his face during the consultation. Eventually I just got up and left. Sick fuck. My current physician is a female, she’s very professional and does her job without associating vaginas as sexual attraction. MALES SHOULD NOT BE OBGYNS! I’d even go so far as to say that males shouldn’t be doctors at all. As some of you know, my childhood family doctor (a male of course) was convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography. hell, there was a recent story about a podiatrist (‘foot doctor’) whos only reason for entering the career was due to his extreme fetish for feet. It was discovered by his wife when she found thousands of photos of patents feet, stored WITH other porn, on his laptop. This was not “staying in the bedroom”, and he had never even mentioned it to his wife (actually denying having any out-of-the-usual desires whenever she asked).

When my girlfriend was hospitalized with severe Guillian-Barre syndrome (she was essentially paralyzed from her neck down), she would literally beg me to shower her instead of her MALE nurse because he refused to lift her breast to clean the skin underneath, or clean her thighs between her legs because it gave him a fucking hard-on. This is so important– seeing how common this is– and I also want you all to know that this is not normal. It isn’t something instinctively ingrained into women, to be afraid of men. There is no natural state of men being a threat that women constantly have to be afraid of. This is cultural. So many women and girls here have a mutual understanding of this feeling, and I think it really shows an unsettling truth about our society, particularly about how men are raised to act and how so many women have this defensive reaction gradually develop. It’s so important that these people have their voices heard, because it teaches us about problems that we just can’t deny the existence of any longer.

I know less and less lesbians in media now because they’re “queer” and I don’t get called a lesbian because I’m “queer” and queer no longer is a reclaimed slur for homosexuals, queer can mean anything now. You can be a heterosexual queer and that’s just fucked up. Queer is still used as a slur in so many areas and straight people shouldn’t feel comfortable calling us that or forcing us to identify as that. They definitely shouldn’t feel comfortable using it for themselves but here we are getting called bigots for not wanting to be called slurs.
