"comparing apples and oranges" has always been funny to me as an expression because people's go to exampe of two things so radically different that they defy any useful comparison are apples. and oranges. like you would struggle to find a more comparable pair of objects than that. theyre literally sold right next to each other in most stores.
wikipedia has a whole ass section dedicated to international variants of the idiom so let me quickly run through them
see this is even worse than oranges. pears and apples are like the most comparable things ever. france takes another L
ok so this is what i mean. these are measures of temperature and texture and are in fact not very comparable. молодцы ребята продолжаем в том же духе.
colombia wins most vivid image invoked hands down. would not want that to happen to me.
and i think we can all agree romania wins this hands down. everyone give a big round of applause to romania
i do not want to live in the fucking panopticon fuck the camera that blinks above me at work, the tv watching me at the store, the "smile you're on camera" signs, the ring cameras, the flock cameras, the apps to track your child or partner, the activist friends telling me "just assume everything you do in public is being recorded somewhere", the government building protester databases, the teslas recording every move all around them, the knowledge that everything i type or search or save is being tracked and logged, the ads and search suggestions that mysteriously know what i was just talking about, the way biometrics keep creeping into more places, the way my car spies on me, the way my phone spies on me, the way there is nowhere to go to get away from it!!! no wonder the internet is full of vindictive little stalkers and witchhunts when it's the water and the air of society from the culture to the infrastructure

“See, privileged able-bodied middle class American suburban cis white ladies?? We’ve been saying for years, eventually they’ll come for you too!” most of you have not been saying that actually. Most of you have in fact spent the last decade or so preaching that any degree of privilege effectively insulates a woman from oppression and violence and that otherwise privileged women who express a fear of being harmed by men are hysterical self-victimizers. A laughably unearned “I told you so” imo

A reminder for my ladies: EVERYTHING TAKES TIME. YEARS. So start right now with the little that you have and stay consistent. Drink a glass of water instead of soda this time. Do one workout. Take a walk. Take up a class. Read a book. Start the treatment. Learn that language. And try that EVERY SINGLE DAY. A little bit every day, but I tell you something, you will see the results in YEARS. Yes, you will get that degree AFTER A FEW YEARS. Yes, your hair will grow long, AFTER A FEW YEARS. Yes, you will be in shape, you will become who you want, you will heal, you will speak that language fluently AFTER A FEW YEARS.
Just keep doing what you're doing and don't give up. Ok? Ok. Love you, bye bye 💌
Modern environmentalists will try literally anything except growing more plants, how did we get to the point where scientists will say with a straight face that to save the planet we should chop down and bury trees underground or replace them with windmills and slime?
there are trees 5ft away in the second fucking photo, and across the street in the first one. this was invented to deal with CO2 in areas so polluted that regular trees can't handle all of it on their own. One tank handles 10-50x the CO2 of a tree without being as harmed by the toxic gases polluting the air killing the trees, and it's frustrating that months after the first article went around celebrating it, people are now sharing a contextless meme that ItS rEpLaCiNg ThE TrEeS !!!!1! when reverse image search is fucking free and shows that they are NOT replacing trees but are meant to AUGMENT the air quality in one fucking city that struggles with it!

@ trans people looking to understand "terfs": ask them how they peaked.
people are freaking out over that new “don’t talk about your periods” republican bill as if we haven’t been fucking silenced about this thanks to the asshurt genderists for the past several years now because it’s too terfy to talk about our female bodies

"radical feminists" mad that a trans woman shows the feminine experience in art better than they ever could
this is so mean-spirited and needlessly dismissive in addition to being untruthful. i enjoy some of ethel's music and i don't have any problem with her whatsoever (except that i think it's unfortunate she reacted to having her aesthetic criticized by saying women who don't agree with her are big apes with coarse, hairy pussies) but ...
objectively, ethel writes about experiences she never had, so she isn't writing about "the feminine experience". she is a natal male who is playing a character, by her own admittance. she is appropriating some of the most horrific experiences women have for her edgy art, which glorifies being a tiny waif white girl who gets raped by daddy and uncle and the preacher who only finds solace from her endless misery of being sexually abused by older men by developing an incestuous relationship with her brother.
that's the ethel cain character, a coquette who becomes hyper sexual after being raped as child. that's also a real experience so many women have had; i was raped for the first time by two men when i was a toddler, and i became hypersexual as a result. many of my friends had the same experience. and we do write about it; it's actually a pretty big part of women's literature, historically, and radical feminist literature in particular. dealing with and understanding trauma related to sexual abuse. that's why some women are particularly sensitive to anything they see as glorifying sexual assault and child abuse, like ethel's music (in their opinion).
also, like ... i remember when ethel got in trouble with fandom types for liking incest slash fic. she was able to criticize those women without calling them "beasts", "slugs" and "toads". the language ethel used to attack the radical feminists who attacked her wasn't specific, it was misogynistic and aimed at insulting women as a class for our anatomy (our vaginas). that doesn't only attack radfems, that is an attack on her fans, too. it sucked!
This is also so funny because men have always stolen women’s work of art and claimed it as their own and erased female artists from history, it’s a well recorded fact (I really recommend this video) so no wonder people like OP would make claims like these. You don’t study history and you’re misogynistic. Men are the ones that have been wishing they could make art like women do throughout human history and it shows.
men have always depicted women in their art that appealed to them and their emotions
men writing about women isnt new, and it should be taken with a grain of salt knowing that its a man writing a woman.
also, the ethel cain artist comes from a religious upbringing and may have expeirenced trauma, or watched others experience trauma, so him writing about it is normal human experience
the appropriative part isnt just writing a girls story instead of his own, but then also claiming to be a woman. trying to say that hes not a male writing a womans story, and should not be abailavle to the same critique as men ( and some braindead ppl fully believing that).
why? because hes feminine? bc he recieved homophobia or other hatred for being a feminine man?
feminine men have the capability to be misogynist too, just like anyone is. and, no matter feminine or masculine or in between- a male experience is not a female experience. its basic human decency to respect that you cannot claim that.
Adult friendships be like “I miss you bro, let's hang out in November"
