Remus looked up from his book, adjusting his glasses. "Yes, Harry? Can’t sleep?"

"Sirius says you’re a hero. Like the ones in my books."

Remus smiled, though it was a little sad. "Sirius has a very vivid imagination, Harry. I’m just a man who is trying to be better each day, like all of us."

​"But he said you fought a great battle," Harry insisted, climbing onto the sofa. "He said you fought your own shadow for years just so it wouldn't hurt anyone else. And he said that makes you the bravest person he’s ever met."

Remus went very still. He could hear Sirius in the kitchen, humming a Muggle tune while he did the dishes.

"He said that?" Remus asked softly.

"He said it’s why he follows you everywhere," Harry added with a yawn. "Because even in the dark, you look like the North Star."

Remus’s gaze drifted unconsciously toward the kitchen door, catching the silhouette of Sirius through the glass; shoulders relaxed, hands busy in the soapy water, a flicker of light the world couldn't dim. He thought of how many years he’d spent drifting toward the dark, and how Sirius had spent every one of them pulling him back.

He leaned in close to Harry, his voice barely a breath.
