Onion is Yellow Diamond (Onion Gang)
Onion is Yellow Diamond. For real this time.
Let me explain. Look at this image from the latest episode, Onion Gang:
Remind you of anything? Perhaps if I turn it horizontallyâŚ
So, this is undeniably foreshadowing (or a really elaborate red herring). If weâre presuming these four characters are the diamonds, then Squash is PD, Onion is YD, Soup is BD, and Garbanzo is WD. One thing that is kind of strange is the apparent break in logic: Garbanzo has a green mask. But in all reality, this is probably because white on white doesnât work very easily.
As the episode goes, Steven meets the three other kids (Diamonds), where the ambush him in the woods. They build a car (spaceship) and go out of the woods (Seemingly Homeworld) into the city, passing the Crab Shack.
Undeniably diamonds in the background of them in the car, this is space travel.
They swerve and crash into a park bench connected to some shrubs and a tree. Earth.
Then White Diamond fallsâŚ
But Pinto, the small pink baby, revives himâŚ
ROSE QUARTZ. HEALING POWERS.
Then Onion (Yellow Diamond) nudges Steven and winks like it was a⌠joke?
They pull out this jacket, and all get in (indicating fusion, obviously) â Iâm not too sure about this, but here are my thoughts:
They pass the Crab Shack again, now fused
They fool Suitcase Sam and we learn he doesnât need an eye patch?
We then learn that they have been collecting pictures of residents of Beach City.
And a few things come to mind.
They are now in outer space.
They are collecting gems (pictures) at Homeworld.
So at this point, Steven doesnât seem to have a role in this analogy; Roseâs role is being played by Pinto. However, this next segment, he becomes Rose: Onion draws 5 tracks for the bug race, leaving out Pinto.
Soup (Blue Diamond) takes off his hat and each of the kids (Diamonds) take a bug. What do these bugs symbolize?
Well, they race them, and Steven (Roseâs) wins⌠Then the other kids give him a sledgehammer and want him to kill it â and he canât. He responds: âBugs may be weird, but I donât want to kill oneâŚ. Iâm going homeâ
Bugs⌠are humans? Rose doesnât want to kill them, and goes home.
Onion (Yellow Diamond) comes to Steven, forces him to go back to the forest (Homeworld), where he learns that the other kids (Diamonds) are leaving for the summer.
And Onion â Yellow Diamond â stays.
So far, we have only seen one diamond in the present. Yellow Diamond on the intercom. All other appearances have been in the past.
These are very convoluted without context, but either this is a very elaborate red herring, or the best hiatus cliffhanger of all time. What do you think? Letâs solve this.
TL;DR: Onion Gang was a huge allegory to the Great Diamond Authority and Rose, and possibly the greatest hiatus cliffhanger ever.
