I keep using my girlfriend with unusual work hours to get out of coworker interactions and happy hours and hanging out.
But now the company holiday party is upon us.
And I’ve been lying about the girlfriend.
I suddenly really empathise with the characters in Hallmark Christmas movies.
I like that people have two reactions to this post.
Reasonable: “just say she couldn’t make it!”
Chaotic: FAKE DATING AU
And so it begins
Update, Craigslist has flagged my post as inappropriate.
Apparently you can’t solicit a date as a “gig”
I now see my mistake
Update: a date has been acquired. This is true lesbian solidarity in action.
My wife has now read this and wonders how baby gays are even meeting and mating
Can confirm I am meeting and mating just fine 😂
By the way I’m in a relationship with this woman now
This is the feedback I’ve been looking for
You fancy girls?
Well, that’s sort of an entry level requirement Erin.

the irony of david and matteo
I realized a very important point needed to be made about Davenzi. Then I decided to make that point as dramatically as possible.

it’s not like i’m not regularly ugly crying over matteo’s and david’s first time clip even without lukas talking about it, but he really just reminded me how much i appreciate that scene. i genuinely think it’s one of the best and most sincere sex scenes i have ever seen and to have that between a trans boy and a cis gay boy is just extra special. teenagers are so often oversexualized when their sex life and first sexual experiences are depicted and if it’s not that, we often see them covering up their insecurities and awkwardness in an effort not to seem uncool or inexperienced. of course that’s an issue that’s worth addressing, but it was soo refreshing to see so much love and respect between david and matteo.
its such a rewarding conclusion to both of their character arcs, with david finally being able to trust matteo fully (which is also why this is the first time we see his room) and matteo coming to terms with his struggles about sexuality.
the whole season long he’s continuously pushed into a position where it is expected of him to be confident and enthusiastic about sex when he’s clearly not. obviously he doesn’t want to sleep with sara because he’s gay but it’s just particularly oppressive how he’s not at all allowed to express any sort of vulnerability or insecurity over his first sexual experiences.
so to see him freely admitting to being nervous/excited when he’s finally with someone who he’s actually attracted to is sooo important in my eyes. his anxiety doesn’t magically disappear just because he now has the chance to get intimate with another boy but he’s able to express his feelings without having to be worried about what david will make of it. the whole thing is so evident of their gained love and trust for each other, because they both allow the other to feel what they feel without any sort of judgement. most importantly, they both feel comfortable and secure enough to show and share everything they are because they know the other will accept and embrace all of it.
all of those feelings are neatly tied up in those 3 minutes and 31 seconds and if i was part of that, i’d be damn proud of it too.
thank you kebab.di for this vid.
Sometimes David still gets overwhelmed with the urge to run away from things. The consequences of his actions. The pressure of his dreams. The uncertainty of his future. And when that anxiety wells up inside him, he knows the safest place to bury his head is Matteo’s chest. He can press his face into Matteo’s soft warmth, near his heart, and whine like a small child. Because of course Matteo will smile, and reach up to cup the back of David’s head, and then do something unbelievably annoying to break through all of his fear and doubt. And as silly as David knows it must look to other people, it makes him braver. Every time.

welcome back! how are you feelin about druck giving hanna the plot you wanted all season for damira?
Ouch. Cutting right to it.
I’m feeling a lot of things about it. (And, obviously, it’s normal and totally okay to feel more than one thing at once about these Amiraless clips.)
One of the big feelings is... underwhelmed. My deep dive essay about Amira and her season already went into why I feel like the film storyline could’ve been a goldmine for richly layered character interaction throughout the season, seen through a lens of Amira’s alienation from society and her family’s expectations. That felt like a huge wasted opportunity -- and a quick, slipshod clip about the making of the film doesn’t change that conclusion for me. Even if we set aside how unbelievable it is that Amira wouldn’t be involved with the film in any capacity, at any point in the season, there are things within the clip itself that felt wrong. Like how David, with his meticulous attention to detail and aesthetic, apparently wouldn’t think to secure the sheet background properly so you can’t see the loose folds, and wouldn’t already know which mask he wanted to use in the scene. I guess it’s a sign of how unenthusiastic he’s become about the idea and the process, but really? He’s been working on it for weeks, and seemed really invested in it, and this is all he has? Weird. Not just low-budget weird, but confusingly thoughtless and low-effort weird.
And the clip, I think, is more evidence of how much this whole season was negatively impacted by poor scheduling. It’s off-putting when big group scenes are missing half the cast with no explanation. It’s equally off-putting when David’s film feels like a last-minute afterthought with hardly any other characters visibly involved and basically no narrative tie-ins to other plot threads, after early-season text messages implied the opposite. I can’t help but feel like the show’s production kinda fell apart on every level, not just the writing.
But, honestly? My biggest feeling about the clip was happiness. Because Matteo and David’s happiness means a lot to me. So it’s beautiful to get a whole minute of them being supportive and playful and dumb and in love. Especially since this is probably one of the last chances to see it. Their re-imagined love story was quietly revolutionary, and made a big difference in a lot of our lives, and they deserve a lovely sendoff. So do other characters.
Of course it’s a terrible shame that the writing in Amira’s plot wasn’t robust enough to fill ten whole episodes of her own before we started seeing other characters moving forward post-Abi. Of course I’m bummed out that David and Amira didn’t get to bond over their identities the way Lukas and Tua did off screen. But that’s how it is. I’m not going to let that completely poison my feelings about the things Druck did right. Because a lot of the things they did right were really, really important.
