and in the one hand, did i enjoy spending hours researching housing regulations in my state? not especially. drafting this email was stressful. but on the other hand, did i learn a lot by doing that research? yeah, i did. i’m more prepared for my current and future leases. i used some of that info to make decisions about a new renter’s insurance policy. i already told three different people about things i learned that are relevant to their leases that they didn’t know yet. (pro tip: see if you’re supposed to be getting annual interest payments on your security deposit! also look up what specific appliances your landlords must legally provide as of 2026.) i also got to reconnect with my cousin for a bit because her job gave her specific insight on part of the situation, and i’d much rather do that than have a chatbot make shit up for me.

also, i drafted that email with the power of friendship (friends angry on our behalf) and spite (from landlords telling me not to do my research). chatgpt could never.

They were never supposed to be martyrs for humanity, and that was the point. Every motive they had to save the earth came from selfishness.

They loved through hedonism. They loved humanity, loved earthly pleasures, and more than anything they loved each other. They don’t even fully consider meddling in the apocalypse until Crowley brings up THEIR life, wines, restaurants, parks.

Aziraphale fully intended to blow up a kid to save his life on earth. Crowley took a pause as the world was ending, just to mourn his car, and even then, he only stops time to save the earth because Aziraphale had threatened to “never talk to him again” if he didn’t do something about it. Crowley asks Aziraphale to run away from earth with him, leave it all behind. Even in Aziraphale going to heaven, it was to keep THEIR lives safe, to prevent further action from Heaven that would sully their perfect life on earth.

The both of them disobeyed their superiors, time and time again, knowing it would likely kill them, all for their life together.

And that’s why I just don’t believe it, the end of it all. The idea that Aziraphale and Crowley, hedonistic, selfish, bastards worth knowing they are, that when faced with a choice between keeping their lives as they were, or complete and utter erasure, that they would choose the latter?

No. I disagree entirely.

Both seasons, 1 and 2, they have been established as these individuals, with these beliefs, and these convictions and what not. To just go against that?? Entirely??? If I had the responsibility to pick up a story that didn’t belong to me, getting the character’s beliefs right is like the FIRST THING IM DOING. I’m analyzing, I’m scouring, I’m getting that shit right, because if I don’t, then it’s not the same story, NONE OF IT MATTERS.

Perhaps that is the rant complete. To summarize my scatter brain, they have been established hedonists for both seasons 1-2, if there was any pair of characters across the characters multiverse I’d expect to NOT sacrifice their lives, it’d be Aziraphale and Crowley, maybe for each other, but for NOTHING ELSE.

Aziraphale says "you must have had records" and Nina, hypnotized, responds "yes, we were very good at keeping records". Keeping. What does Maggie's record shop notoriously not do? Sell records. She is the record-keeper.

The nuns' records at Tadfield were destroyed in a (hell-made) fire. When the world is remade to Adam's preference at the end of S1, he restores the records and puts them back. He just puts them back .. slightly differently. It's an 11 yo child's understanding of records, tucked back into reality safely, placed right back into a space that had been destroyed by a fire.

Plus it has legs. In the end of the book when it’s wrapping Warlock and Greasy Johnson’s stories it does mention “you never forget the first friends you ever made”.
