THIS. I often make jokes about my own seizures because it helps me cope with the experiences of them, and my close friends know that and would never dream of saying them to me. But suddenly when I tell someone that I don’t know that I have epilepsy, it’s okay to make a joke out of it? Fuck off. I’m actually so glad this came up in my feed because I never really see anything like this on social media without me actively going looking for epilepsy-related support pages. This message NEEDS to be spread. It’s not a joke. Not only is it dangerous, it’s traumatic. Some people are conscious during there seizures, and some people are not. I’ve experienced both conscious and unconscious seizures since I was 6 and they’re both TERRIFYING. So please, if you hear someone make a seizure joke, do not interpret it as an invitation to jump in and make your own.
