It's Brian's birthday again and this time he's turning 75! 35 he's totally turning 35, really. We love him very much here, and so it's time to give him the very best we can imagine - meaning Freddie of course!

Maycury Week this year will run from Freddie's birthday, Sept 5 - Sept 11. We've prepared four prompts for each day: a quote, an AU, a situation, and a song.

Rules! It's Maycury Week, so the central pairing should be Freddie and Brian, whether you want that to be Platonic or Romantic. No word count requirements, poetry music and imagery are as welcome as stories, and the prompts are only for inspiration - if you have an idea that doesn't match any prompt, we will be thrilled to see that too!

There will be a collection on AO3 which will go live the weekend before, as well as a round up of Tumblr posts at the end. Please tag everything “#Maycury Week 2022” so we can find it.

For Maylor Week 2022 - Reality AU prompt - These are little snippets from a reality show I imagined that Brian and Roger and their family have done over the years. It is not limited to modern day and can reference time in the past 15-20 years. For the basis of their reality show, their children do vary in appearance per episode. Some are grown and living outside the family home and others remain.

the queen fandom is very lucky to have such beautiful and talented creators and i really want to encourage them to keep doing that and blessing us with some of their loveliest works.

another reason behind why this blog was created is that some of the creator’s works go unnoticed and it doesn’t get the notes it deserves. this blog will definitely help in fixing that up by reblogging it on this page!

Gen refers to fic that is not focused on romance. If your fic is not a romance fic, please give it this tag.

Other refers to fic that is focused on romance, but is not specifically male/female, male/male, or female/female (like an OT3 (ship involving 3 people), a ship involving characters that are not male or female, etc). IT IS NOT FOR PLATONIC RELATIONSHIPS. IT IS FOR ROMANTIC ONES. please for the love of all that is holy do not tag your family-relationship-centered fics as “other” you are going to give people a HEART ATTACK.

“Character/Character” is for romantic pairs. “Character & Character” is for platonic relationships like friendship, family, etc. Please do not tag family-centered or adult-and-minor-centered platonic character relationships as character/character for the love of all that is holy

The E rating is for smut and literally nothing else (unless you have other unusual reasons to rate it E–I’ve seen people apply it to non-smut fics as a deterrent to keep minors away from it, but keep in mind it’ll make it so people who are trying to avoid smut will not find your fic). Your fic that has a lot of graphic violence but no sexual content does not need an E rating.

The M rating is for fics that would basically be rated R if they were movies, and may contain graphic violence, some sexual content, and generally more serious subject matter than you would typically show a teenager. However, if your fic is almost entirely smut, please just give it an E rating.

Also, when you post a fic, you WILL want to give it a rating, or else AO3 will assume you’re probably posting smut and will warn everybody who clicks on your fic that it may contain adult content. If you don’t want that on your fic that contains no adult content at all, please just give it the proper rating instead of not rating it at all.

“Creator Chose Not to Archive Warnings” means that at least one or more of the archive warnings (that is, “Major Character Death,” “Graphic Depictions of Violence,” “Rape/Non-Con,” or “Underage”) DOES apply to your story, and you’re choosing not to say which one it is. If you select this option, AO3 will put a warning on the fic that potential readers have to click through.

“No Archive Warnings Apply” means that none of the aforementioned archive warnings apply to your fic.

Always have back up of your stuff.

Distraction-free software that helps you write do exist.

Pasting your text from google docs onto AO3 will make it look funny.

There’s a script☆ that solves that problem.

Feedback (or the lack thereof) is never what you expect.

Learn to write for yourself in the first place.

Not everything you write will be the best fic ever™.

You can’t control how people react to your stuff.

No self-deprecation. Seriously.

A good summary attracts people. (No “I suck at summaries” there!)

Punctuation and structure are so important.

Don’t be afraid of using a character’s name. That’s why they have one.

Get a beta reader if you can.

It’s YOUR story and only you can tell it.

DO write that 9861th coffee shop AU for your fandom.

Anything is an AU.

Researching is good but don’t let it keep you from writing.

Tag your stuff accordingly.

Advice you see around aren’t supreme rules set in stone.

You’ll learn more about your style as you go.

Don’t compare your writing to others’. Especially “famous” fic writers.

Perfection doesn’t exist. Stop striving for it and just write.

A rough draft is better than NO story.

It’s okay to move on from an unfinished work to a new one.

It’s okay to not write 200K words in an hour.

Any length of writing is okay. Just focus on telling YOUR story.

Slumps and writer block are common.

You can always improve your writing if you want to.

Read lots and notice what you like in other people’s writing.

If you’re not having fun take a step back.

Set up a sideblog for writing on tumblr.

Tag your stuff accordingly. (both on AO3 and tumblr)

Follow spaces for fanfic discussions like @ao3commentoftheday

There’s no consensus about ANYTHING regarding fanfiction.

You can’t please everyone but you can please yourself.

Some people out there are rude and can’t be reasoned with.

Fanfiction is NOT your job. Don’t feel guilty for “not updating in months”.

Publish your stuff because you want to share it.

Everybody write crappy fics. Write yours.

Game soundtracks (instrumental) are great to play while writing. 

There’s always somebody out there waiting for your fic.

Many times you won’t hear but they exist.

Have fun. Indulge yourself. Treat yo self.

Writing is the best thing but also the worst.

Jot down those ideas. You won’t “remember later”. Seriously you won’t.

Inspiration often hits you when you CAN’T write.

It also often leaves when you can write.

Everybody hates and loves writing. That’s the life of a writer for ya.

Even your fave fic writer can feel ehh about the fic of theirs you LOVE.

Starting from the middle or the end IS a thing.
