Should we stop adoring them?

How long have you been together??

This long….

Like many people, I watched Heated Rivalry and immediately got sucked into the story and the characters and also the actors playing the lead roles. Their chemistry is off the charts.

I found myself watching the show on repeat and was soon practically feral over following Connor Storrie and Hudson William's fast paced rise to the top. And - also what has come with it.

If you take any interest in them you are probably aware that they are declared best friends and the term 'soul mate' has been tossed around as well. In addition, we have seen two men who are openly affectionate with each other and are joined at the hip whenever they attend an event together. Something that is an absolute positive in my opinion.

Of course, we are now seeing the ugly side of fandom creeping in. The over exposure of them by the media and unhealthy obsession by some in the fandom. Speculation and assumption about who they truly are to each other and people tagging the actors on their posts regarding such musings.

I hate that this is happening to them and that it has created distress for these young actors. I have spent some time trying to understand what is occurring and also why we are so fascinated by them.

So - here is what I determined in my middle aged brain -

I realized the reason I am drawn to them and love their sweet, close friendship and total comfort with each other is that they remind me of my high school girlfriends. When I was in high school, there were always the two friends who were attached to each other like glue. Best friends and completely engrossed in each other. They were the kind of friends who talked on the phone every day and had sleepovers almost every weekend with each other. They were openly affectionate and it was nothing to see one sitting in the other's lap. For them to gladly share a bed or sofa for a nap. Were completely content in each other's space and seemed like they almost could not function without the other in their life.

Maybe you have witnessed this type of friendship. It is one that is warm and comfortable and kind of nice actually. And is just a friendship.

To me, that is what I see in Hudson and Connor. They just happen to be male. Once I figured this out, I stopped wondering about their sexuality and just felt a nice glow from the love and affection they have for each other. And smiled when I considered that everyone deserves a friendship like this in their life. Luckily, I am still besties with my high school friend after 40 years. I hope Connor and Hudson are that lucky too.
