Hey Mom, it's your son. I’m sorry I don't get see you on mother’s day this year. I feel like I’m abandoning you, Dad, and Mikey this year by not being around on a special day like this. I guess to be rumored dead is better than actually being dead. I’ve been doing fine, mainly living off the land and the small bit of money I make from selling the fish I catch at farmer’s markets. I remember what Dad always said, “If you sell good products, you get good customers." I can now say that it's definitely true. When I’m not looking for ways to sustain myself, I've been going around and exploring different places, sometimes with the added bonus of finding useful materials. I’ve even been taking pictures of where I’ve been, and hopefully I’ll be able to show you what I've captured on film soon. I now how much you liked art and photography. Alternis was lying amongst the tall grass underneath a ghillie blanket as he heard a helicopter flying overhead. He heard the helicopter fly off and he moved out from underneath the blanket, and looked around as he felt the weight of the overcast sky above him and gentle breeze blowing in from the west. He let that breeze play on his cheeks as he sat there and took a moment. He sighed, and pulled the silenced hunting rifle from his pack and ran his fingers along the walnut stock.

It was and old rifle that he had modified into a powerful weapon. It had cost him a lot of money to build, but to him it was worth it. It gave him something to do, other than explore old buildings and take pictures nobody was ever going to see. He was speculating buying an improved scope for it. Maybe something with more adjustable zoom. Or he buy some more powerful ammunition. He set the rifle on the ground, and slipped his backpack off his shoulders. He undid the buckles that held it shut and looked through it. He had: a gasmask, a roll of gauze bandages, some alcohol in the form of vodka, and two Geiger counters. One was a backup in case something happened to the other one. He had fastened an additional strap around the backpack, where a 9mm pistol had been tucked in, alongside a combat knife he used in wide array of applications. He pulled out one of the handheld Geiger counters and turned the device on.

He listened for the distinctive tick-tick of the counter as it detected radiation in the surrounding area. Sure enough, he heard the ticking noise, telling him there was radiation around. Of course, he knew where he was at, and it wasn’t anywhere pleasant. He was standing in the radioactive Zone of Exclusion, where a nuclear facility was shut down after a mishandling of nuclear material caused an explosion. From what he heard, G.U.N. was using the facility to get their hands on nuclear material so they wouldn’t have to deal with scrutiny. But it was a dangerous game, and he needed to put a stop to it. Judging by the helicopter flying overhead, G.U.N. was already here.

He let out a sigh as he closed his bag and loaded his rifle. Today was going to be a long day.
