No more games about Professor Layton? Well, how about Doctor Triton?
Imagine a new game where the action takes place 10 years after the events of the Unwound Future. The main protagonists are Luke Triton, who is now a doctor of biology, and his assistant Flora. They do pretty much the same things Layton and Luke did: travel around the world, solve mysteries, search for puzzles and save people. I think Layton himself could be an episodic character, sometimes appearing to give some useful advice, but the main focus would still be on Luke and Flora.
So I decided to create a logo for this idea and some designs!
Luke is 23. He has become quite the gentleman since the last time we saw him, but he’s still an impulsive, adventurous and fun-loving guy. Luke became the youngest doctor in Gressenheller’s history due to his inquisitive and hard-working nature. He’s currently working as a zoologist. When Luke was 18, he got a top-hat as a gift from Layton, and never parts with it even since.
The first thing I decided about Luke’s design: he should not look like Clive. I know that he was supposed to be the grown-up version of Luke, but I wanted something different. I tried to show how much Layton influenced Luke over the years, and I also based some features on Clark’s design. And even though I was hesitant at first, I’m glad I eventually decided to change his cap for a top-hat. This creates a more iconic and recognizable appearance, and also gives an impression of maturity.
Flora is 25. She’s matured a lot, but she’s still the same cute and kind girl we all know. She has developed a new sarcastic side to her character which helps her to feel more confident and tough (similar to college Layton). And even though sometimes Flora can make a rather snarky comment about Luke, she never sounds rude or mean-spirited. Like her teenage self, she’s quite shy around strangers, a bit naïve, always well-intentioned, and ready to help people in need. She has an adventurous and somewhat mischievous spirit, but never forgets her manners, really striving to be a true lady — just like Layton taught her.
In her design, I wanted to keep most of her cute, childish features, but at the same time I had to make her look more mature. I also tried to incorporate some elements of Claire’s and Lady Dahlia’s designs into hers. I really like how it turned out.
