Secret of the Mimic is a prequel game set in like 1978-ish. The main character is a man named Arnold. This game sets up the origins of the Mimic, how it was made, etc.
Edwin Murray, owner of Murray's costume manor, was commissioned by Fazbear Ent. for some of the early FNAF 1 crew costumes. Through audio logs and tapes you find, you find out Edwin met a woman named Fiona. They got married, and later had a child named David.
Fiona later dies and in his grief (and typical fnaf fashion) Edwin makes the first Mimic, F10NA/M1. This Mimic is supposed to replicate her perfectly, and was often left in charge of David while Edwin worked. Then on David's birthday, he got far enough away from them and also died (it was a car crash in the books, but I think it was something different in the game, not sure).
Then Edwin made M2, as a replacement for David. Oneday, grieving, he shouts that the machine isn't his son and he beats it, teaching it violence. M2 later acts out against Edwin, killing him.
Fazbear Ent. sent in engineers to collect what was "legally" theirs, which is why Arnold is there at all. He's instructed by Dispatch initially and has to go through the manor to get this item and leave. The Mimic could be in any of the costumes, and they're everywhere. Due to this company being seperate from Fazbear's there are some unique characters (like Jackie), but also a lot of familiar ones as well (Roxy, Foxy, Sun, Moon & Chica).
Early on into the game you can tell Dispatch has been replaced by F1, as she tries to get you to help her. (F10NA is a machine, likely the same machine powering MXES in Ruin, and is thus incapable of movement, just talking to you.) Only 1 animatronic chases you the entire game, being the Mimic is controlling 1 suit at a time.
If you want the lore i suggest youtube or something. The game is pretty good from a game play point though. Plenty of puzzles, chase scenes, and there's areas you can loop back to pretty easily.
