weird question but I want to post more about my ocs on Tumblr, but I also want to turn their story into a proper comic one day once I'm skilled enough. Because of this I don't want to post too much information, since I want there to be some twists and surprises in the comic proper. How do you handle not revealing too much information for Idwtbamg, stuff that would be revealed in the hypothetical final show?
honestly i wouldn't worry about it much! i've talked about this a little bit before
๐ฌ 8ย ย ๐ 660ย ย โค๏ธ 3056ย ยทย ive always had this hang up that i have to keep everything i want to turn into a commercial project super secret and p
i feel like people worry about this a lot which is fair but also when stuff like the manga -> anime pipeline exists, i think it's safe to assume that even though people might know a spoiler or what's going to happen, they'll still be excited just to see the product in a different way and care more about the execution.
but on my end, whenever i post art focusing on the cast, i keep it more to character interactions and small worldbuilding things that i think are interesting and fun for people to know without giving away the larger story. i've found solace in the fact that my audience on twitter/tumblr is a fraction of the people that go and watch the show! i've been super up front about Zira being Aika's love interest and that this is a yuri series (which could be considered a spoiler) but most users on youtube have absolutely no idea that that's the case hahaha
so truly, don't be afraid to spoil but if that's something you wanna keep close to your chest, just drawing the characters interacting in small vignettes is always a fun way to show the tone of your comic on top of familiarizing your audience with the characters.
Which OC (or multiple) has changed the most since they were first created? Either design-wise, or personality, story relevance, role, morality, goals, etc. Etc.
What all has changed about them over time, and how do you feel about the changes made?
(This can be original characters or fan characters, or both!)
And, if the current version could meet their past/previous self, how would they feel about each other? Would they get along great, or detest each other? Would they even recognize themself, or wonder how this other version could've ever been them, or feel indifferent? Are they fast friends, cordial acquaintances, or even bitter rivals?
Bonus: what shenanigans could these two get up to together, either pushed into a situation or planned together? How would other characters react to what ensues?
OOOOOOOOH THIS ONE IS FUN!!!! Thank you so much for the ask!!!
My two oldest living OCs are Sigma and Kina--they've both changed a lot, but Sigma is the funniest so I think I'll do this with him--
SIGMA HISTORY RAMBLING UNDER THE CUT
Sigma is an ANCIENT character of mine from back when I was in middle school writing my very first "novel" (i think i only got about 100 pages in before my attention span shorted out and i started writing something else, but sigma was a Part of that universe). He was a secondary antagonist in a story called The Myrmidon, in which he was one of few completely original characters in this story that was...basically a thinly veiled Mario fanfiction. The Original Sigma (tm) was still a wizard who did Math Magic Stuff, but because lil caterpillar HP didn't know very much math yet he just like. Summoned evil geometry and rode around on a huge origami bird he could create by folding the air.
Now, in the motivations department, the original Sigma was pretty different. In The Myrmidon, Sigma was essentially a spy for the Mekkemian government so that they could destabilize Fabania (where the story took place) and eventually take over, which meant that Sigma had to work alongside the Fabanian crown as an "ally" to them while he did his behind the scenes stuff to try and weaken the country from within. Since my main characters were criminals on the run from the Fabanian heroes, this put Sigma in an interesting spot where he was both hurting the protagonists by helping out these knights that were chasing them, and helping the protagonists by making the knights WAY more incompetent than they would have been if he wasn't Meddling. I didn't actually write very much sigma action before I gave up on the Myrmidon, but I had plans where in the end, he would spare the protagonist (smart gadget making kid) after finding his hiding spot because he reminded him of a younger version of himself. All in all, not the most impactful or interesting character, but i was 12 so i don't really know what else one would expect lmao.
Other things about the og Sigma
His last name was "Netdrawer" because even back then he had the backstory of his fishermen parents selling him to the government for their wizard program
He had an apprentice named Tangent, whom he neglected severely
As far as the design goes, I still have this comparison I made for OC-Tober comparing his new and old design
I have indeed already made some small tweaks to his current design by now (mainly i changed his choker design, i'll show that off later) but SURPRISE. Grown moth HP can make a cleaner character design than baby worm HP!
When I started the Secret Stuff back in the late late 2010s, I decided to slap Sigma in there, this time as one of the major antagonists, and that has stuck. What HASN'T stuck is literally everything I originally had him doing. In the very first draft of the story, he was like. Creating a cult of witches that boiled skeleton people for soup? He also psychologically tormented this cringefail snake character named Winston who I VERY THANKFULLY decided to cut early on. I did NOT get too far into his motivations or even that he wanted to become a god until I decided to make this into a comic, so RPG sigma is very much just a brief flash in the Sigma History.
In this early RPG stage, Tangent also existed as a playable character who you could recruit to your party after fighting her a few times and convincing her that Sigma was purposefully leaving her behind because he did NOT want to mentor her. Again, no idea why I kept tormenting this mage child who just wanted approval from her government-assigned mentor. Tangent is also NOT a thing in the comic, but I still find her character very funny. Poor kid.
Over all, I am DELIGHTED with what Sigma has turned into. He's one of my favorite OCs now and apparently REALLY sticks with people who see him (one of my sibling's friends, who had only seen the design once like 3 years ago STILL brings him up sometimes). I also think that his current motivation and role in the Secret Stuff story is REALLY compelling and fun. All in all I absolutely adore my Freak Wizard and am very excited to share his suffering with everybody.
Now, if the original Sigma and the current one were to meet...bad things would happen. OG sigma is probably getting MURDERED on sight for being really really cringe. Sigma would be DISGUSTED at what his original iteration was. And I wouldn't have it any other way
BONUS:
If they were put in a situation where they were forced to work together, they probably would be able to--one character trait that Sigma has always had is the ability to play the long game when it comes to getting what he wants. However, it would be done with many catty quips and probably some sabotage, just for the Funny Factor

With an OC (or multiple) of your choosing, what would happen if they were completely opposite of how they are now?
Be it design, personality, gender/identity, likes & dislikes, alignment/morality, clothing preferences, skills/abilities, etc. Etc.
Bonus: with this alternate version of this character (or more!), what would their story look like? How does it change with them being this way? Are other characters also completely different in this flipped universe, or is it more fun to just have 1 or a few characters changed and everything else stay the same? What shenanigans ensue either way?
Oooh!
I'm gonna do some gender bending here because I think that has the most potential. I'm also gonna answer this in short responses for a bunch of characters.
Growing Pains: 1994 (@growing-pains-1994)
Renee: a male Renee would arguably have an easier time in some aspects. Her violent outbursts wouldn't be surprised subject to comments of them being unladylike. Of course, this would also have a gender bent Barneby and Russell, so she'd be labelled as sexist instead. Her backstory would change a lot in some aspects, but I shan't say.
Lucas: female Lucas is still head over heels for guy Renee. He's always hetslop. Anyway, he wouldn't change too much. Laura (his mother) would change a lot if she were a father. This would cause the biggest changes to his story. He'd face sexism for being into so-called boyish hobbies like motorsport and video games.
Ally: has an easier life. Her interests in skateboarding, video games, and sports are seen as normal boy stuff. She would get flack for being such a hopeless romantic, though.
Mary-Anne: fairly consistent! Would likely turn into the story's Jack, though. She'd be bullied a lot for being soft-spoken and nerdy. This would fuck up her self-esteem.
Lola: now seen as effeminate. Her interests in fashion would be called gay. It's 1994, alright? Anyway, yeah, she's getting bullied more. Definitely seen as a nerd and weirdo. Keeps her magazine collection secret.
Jack: a shy and dare I say kinda likeable girl. His interests in music and theatre are now just nerdy, not nerdy and effeminate. He still gets picked on, but people would be more willing to stick up for him. However, he would face a lot of backlash for being weak. Sexism and all.
The Butterfly Effect (@thebutterflyeffect-tbe)
Edith: has an easier life, but it still sucks. Her mental health struggles still get shit treatment, but they're better thanks to her now being a boy. She'd have a lot more freedom to stay out late and investigate stuff. Still paired with Brandon by others, but now she would be the one getting most of it thanks to being both the guy and the weirdo.
Brandon: told he's dumber than he is. His interests in radio technology are predicted to go nowhere. His pride is his head up his arse, his snarky humour is just rude, his--albeit unhealthy--self-preservation is purely selfish, et cetera.

I honestly can't really think of much else. Thank you for the ask, Limbo!! I really appreciate it :]
Wake up in enormous underground cyberpunk metropolis
Venture outside with your ant buddies to forage scraps from an incomprehensible civilization of alien gods (each one several times larger than the city you've spent most of your life inside) for the glory of your GodMomEmpress
Get attacked by a platoon of soldiers from a rival megacity, they're an offshoot of your species except like twice as big (basically orks) and like 10% of them are genetically modified supersoldiers with wings
Luckily, you've been engineered from birth to spit acid so you and your antfriends successfully defeat the rival ants and their winged miniboss
Ants are a fun way to look at cosmic horror, because they make complex decisions plus the whole eusocial thing, but most ants weight 1-5 milligrams, is the thing, and the human brain at a couple pounds or so is like without exaggeration a million times heavier than a whole ant. Imagine just... a brain, a whole brain that's a Boeing 747. But if you step back further, human lungs and circulatory system are so alien to most small arthropods. Pushing blood around in tubes would sound demented. Communicating by sound predominantly without pheremones, it would be cacaphonously loud to an ant, our scents would seem like babbling madness. The whole relatively isolated condition of human life must seem like the void is staring back, a being completely unable to see or comprehend the sights and language of insects that holds the power to destroy them all effortlessly. The vastness and total blankness of humanity to the insect is a cosmic horror to me.

Hi, Limbo! These questions are so in-depth. Thank you very much! :D I had a lot of fun answering these.
Okay, so for this, I'm gonna use one of the protagonists from @growing-pains-1994, Renee. She's had the most drastic change since I originally made her. She was the first OC I made that I still use. My mentally ill girl <:] <3
So, Renee as she is today is a fire cracker. She's extremely prone to anger, often reacting to most injustices (as she sees them) with extreme defensiveness for others. However, she is extremely self-sacrificing and has deep self-worth issues. Her morals are very black and white, but drive her actions.
In many ways, she sees herself as a kind of protector for her peers who are picked on. She constantly gets into verbal and physical fights with the bullies of her class. She hates Barneby and Russell, the two most physical jerks in their class. She mainly focuses on sticking up for Jack, whom is their main target and also her close friend (and another protag).
Meanwhile, the original Renee was extremely meek and timid. She was always shaking like a leaf and needed constant protecting. Except, of course, when my younger self thought it'd be cool if she didn't. Although I strongly dislike the term, she fit the bill of a Mary-Sue.
The original Renee never had much lore. Well, they share mostly the same backstory. Still, there was nothing substantial that made her unique other than being sad and traumatised. She was really shallow.
If the current Renee met her original version, she'd feel quite vulnerable and exposed. Although the Renee today is quick to rage, she still holds a lot of fear and a whole boatload of sadness. Seeing a version of her who is open about this--albeit to an extreme degree--would feel embarrassing. She'd pity this version of her and relate deeply. Her self-worth would also get worse knowing there was (is?) a version of her who didn't so quickly resort to violence.
I think Renee would become very protective of this version of herself. Assuming this old version just kind of exists in the town (called Halboro, by the way) from then on, she'd be bullied. Barneby and Haylee would jump at the opportunity for emotional ammo. Russell and Kirsty (Haylee's friend) would back off more. The two bigger bullies would still have a conscience, though. Upon seeing how bad Renee has it (both versions), they'd have a lot to reflect upon.
