There should be a primate pollinator. Like a primate version of hummingbirds. Little tiny one-gram monkey with huuuuge eyes that lives off of syrup and hops from flower to flower etc

I’m not at all scared of claustrophobia but that’s only because I’m really really scared of jump scares and being stuck in a confined space is like a 100% guarantee against being jumpscared. Crawling through a pipe or something like that doesn’t count here obviously
Reading an article about how Berkely researchers were able to make genetically-modified yeast that produces THC naturally, using the exact same diet that ordinary yeast uses to make ethanol (ie, sugar and basically nothing else). Literally think for one second about the implications of that. People, like regular-ass people, have made transgenic yeast in their garage (here's a guide!) and yeast reproduces crazy style. You could buy a little packet of weed yeast and put it in a sealed bottle on your shelf and feed it with old leftover fruit and it would be like having a little mini THC factory. If you were in prison you could get someone to smuggle in weed yeast and do the exact same thing in a prison toilet. And that's true for basically any organic chemical! Precision fermentation is soooo cool
I stood on the basketball court that night and thought seriously. The ball was hard and cold, and it bounced with the sound of an outsized steel ball-bearing. Yet it seldom came near me. There were times when I could have walked away unnoticed from the court. Even when I seemed in full view of my team-mates, my thin body might have been as transparent as ice. I tried to think of myself as containing something solid and enduring. I still imagined the space inside me as containing a soul. And even at the age of eighteen I kept the image of my soul that I had first acquired as a small child. My soul was a buoyant object shaped like an Australian Rules football. Its surface should have been white and delicate like a petal but it was more often grey and soiled. Knowing from theology that my soul belonged to the spiritual order of things, I had come to imagine it as superimposed on my lungs and stomach and liver - a pale wash on a separate sheet overlaid on the full-colour diagram of my insides. I got no reassurance from thinking of my soul. It belonged more to God than to me. And it was too little distinguished from the souls of others. When the basketball team lined up to be photographed - all of us practicing Catholics of the late 1950s - the men around me had thrust their chests at the camera as though they hoped the photograph would show the rows of white football-shapes floating inside rib-cages.

I have no hate towards cookies, cookies wash cake and ice cream any day of the week, but I wish that muffins had even a fraction of the brand saturation cookies have. It’s weirdly hard to buy a decent muffin in a lot of places. Imagine insomnia cookies but for muffins
Talking about poppyseed muffins here, which are the best kind. Obviously. Fuck I’m so hungry

I think this is the single funniest artfight rule. Like....I guess?
Causing a discourse singularity by uploading my three OCs: a large language model, the entire population of China with each citizen simulating the behavior of a single neuron, and a nonanthropomorphic dolphin
leaving a bad review of The Art of War on Amazon so my enemies don't buy it
You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.
This post and a lot of its replies seem to be implying that decoding text based on sight-recognizing certain word shapes and drawing inferences based on that context is bad in general, but that's just what automatic reading is! On a subconscious level, "plucking out keywords (...) based on the shape of them" is literally what you're doing every time you read a block of text!
The Whole Language model is bad because it's putting the cart before the horse by skipping past phonics and straight into sight reading/inference, not because sounding words out is somehow the only correct way to read. Poor reading comprehension happens because people are bad at these skills, not because the skills themselves are bad.

Off Topic/Forum Games/Corrupt A Wish
- Hey guys! I noticed a lack of forum games on this site, so I thought I'd start us off with a favorite of mine! The rules are simple: one poster writes a wish, and the next reply... twists it into something horrible >:)
