Let It Rip

this episode was devastating in the best way. rick desperately wants to escape himself and he just can't at the end of it all, no matter how much he tries. it's heartbreaking. he just wants to be normal, but that's impossible for him (the man who can do anything). he will always end up back being the smartest man in the universe who hates himself.

i absolutely loved ted's outfits, how cutie. i love the little escape life he's made for himself. so simple and so nice with his good friends who really care about him.

while rick has changed a lot over the seasons, he is still the same depressed drunk bastard he always has been. he's stuck in a repeating cycle we've seen again and again. he's either going to continue this way, trying and failing to find ways to be happy and then taking it out on his family and getting drunk- or he's going to try to actually work on himself for once.

of course we see in the post-credit scene that he just continues trying this same method of memory-wiping himself to become someone else as 'vacation', so i don't suppose we will be seeing new positive growth anytime soon lol

i love that summer acknowledges how fucked up rick and morty's dynamic is and beth follows it up by ignoring it for now and dealing with something else. summer is so used to it that she's not going to do anything either. why would she? we all know beth will never admit that her father is bad for morty, and if beth won't do anything, summer won't either.

we always end up back with morty comforting drunk sad rick. morty lying to ted that rick is "so happy" to get him to switch back really got me.
