My favorite boxing manager/coach of all time, Cus d'amato. The things he says about boxing are also applicable to lessons in life. I am truly obsessed with style of peek-a-boo boxing that he taught fighters such as Mike Tyson ,and Floyd Patterson.Ā

On December 28th Anderson Silva will have a shot to regain his title against Chris Weidman. Weidman beat a showboating Anderson this past July by KO. The other fights I will be looking forward to include: Josh Barnett vs. Travis Browne, Jim Miller vs Fabricio Camones, Dustin Poirier vs Diego Brandao, Chris Leben vs Uriah Hall, Dennis Siver vs Manvel Gamburyan, and John Howard vs Siyar Bahadurzada.
Everybody you fight is not your enemy and everyone that helps you is not your friend.

November 14, 1966: Muhammad Ali defeats Cleveland Williams via TKO in the 3rd round, retains the world heavyweight title. Cleveland Williams retires after the fight. This has been described by many as Aliās best fight

Next Saturday Pacman fights Brandon Rios. Manny Pacquiao is coming off of a 2 fight losing streak, the first was a controversial split decision loss to Timothy Bradley, and in my opinion if you have 2 eye balls you saw Pacquiao dog Bradley. The second loss was one of the hardest knockouts we've seen in boxing in the past several years where Marquez left Manny face down on the canvas as the bell rang. If Manny loses there is speculation that he will retire.
Glory 12: Extremely excited for this card. We will be seeing appearances from American Joe Schilling who won glory 10 becoming the Middle-weight belt holder. Another great fight is Jamal Ben Saddik vs Ben Edwards, both are enormous guys with extreme knockout power, and quickness.Ā
The fighter I am most excited to see on this card is Gorgio Petroysan, who by many is comparable pound for pound with Floyd Mayweather Jr. This guy really is amazing, i think anyone who liked sports could appreciate watching this technician at work. He faces a really fantastic fighter Andy Ristie, although I am calling it for Petrosyan.
Also on the card is a guy I have personally been able to train with. He is an exciting and extremely skilled up and coming figher Francois Ambang. Who fights out of Combat Sports Center in Richmond, VA.Ā
Rico Verhoeven wins Glory 11 Heavyweight World Championship FinalĀ (latter style tournament)Ā by way of slug fest Ā decision against Daniel Ghita.
This past Friday, Kevin Ross, one of the top representatives for America in Muay Thai lost to former K1 max fighter, Tetsuya Yamato in a controversial split decision. Regardless is was a dog fight, and if you haven't seen Mr. Ross fight take the time to look him up.
It's funny that I didn't know this, but Cris Cyborg Santos, the girl, fought Muay Thai on the card, and dominated. She has been in trouble for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs when she fought MMA, and to anyone with a brain in their head this wasn't hard to spot. She actually had trouble finding opponents for years in MMA, nice to see this scary female back at it.
I'll provide a picture below of Santos so you know what I mean.
UFC 165: Jones wins by a split decision. Renan Barao lands a spinning back kick followed by punches, knocking out Eddie Wineland, 26 seconds into the 2nd round. Another important note, Khabib Nurmagomedov wins a decision over Pat Healy continuing his undefeated record of 21 wins, 0 loses.
BARAO KO VVVVVVVVVV

It seems like everyone in the world that doesnāt live in Sweden is picking Jon Jones to retain his UFC Light-heavyweight championship title against Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 165, but no one is asking what will happen if āThe Maulerā pulls off the upset victory. Sure, itās unlikely, but so was this, and itās always foolish to count a challenger out completely.
This Saturday, September 21 Ā Jon Jones fights Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165. In my opinion is it a marketing strategy to take a guy who is extremely talented with an almost unfair reach advantage for his weight class, and fight a much lesser talented counter part with the closest reach anyone has come to matching Jon Jones'. The article that is linked to my quotes, in a nutshell says, everyone is expecting Jon Jones to give Gustafsson a beating; I have to agree.
P.S. I dislike the Jon Jones image. I cheer against him.....
My close personal friend, and writer for this particular blog, Jack Saladino thinks Gustafsson will win, ha!
(I would just like to note that my choosing to post this blog late in relevance to the date of the fight doesn't matter. I am here to simply analyze, discuss, and share opinions on the topic. In the future I will try to make my posts on the night of, or day after of whatever event is held.)
So today is September 20th, and I will be speaking on behalf of an event that took place on September 14th, 2013. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0-0) vs Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1). Usually when there is any kind of competitive contest being held that involves two of the best current athletes at their sports facing off head to head against each other (especially in fighting) I wouldn't miss it for the world. That Saturday night however was dedicated to spending a romantic evening with my girlfriend. She puts up with enough of my Saturday Night PPV viewings, so I owe it to her to let her know shes number one. Now in regards to the fight, I was really pulling for Alvarez, but I woke up Saturday morning to check my cell phone. Since i had no text from my buddy Mike, I assumed that he lost.(Mike is a friend from home who I train with, he loves to box, and is a huge Saul Alvarez fan) Eventually I was able to obtain a copy of the fight that my friends recorded at his house on DVR. After watching it my analysis was that Floyd picked apart Canelo by setting up his punches and varying the flow of his punches. He also showed great timing when throwing the more key punches during the combinations that he threw throughout the fight. Floyd also showed his usual flawless defense, and agility. The factor that I thought stuck out most of all was Floyd's ability to use the ring. He used the ring to put Alvarez on the ropes and pick him apart, which is similar to where Alvarez's opponents usually find themselves. As far as the job done by Alvarez it looked to me that he went in with his normal game plan of throwing smooth, powerful, and sometimesĀ unusualĀ combinations, whileĀ utilizingĀ his right hand. I think because he has had such great success with this method, he thought it was good enough to work on Floyd.Ā
Most boxing fans could have told you before hand that it had to be different from the other fights for Saul to win. Ever since Pacquiao got Ko'd by Marquez, Mayweather has become to end all greatest boxer walking the planet.Ā
I just wanna say I love Saul Alvarez. I'm currently 22 years old turning 23 in January. Saul is currently 23 years old, a professional boxer with 42 wins 1 loss (to Mayweather who is 45-0), 1 draw, with 30 knockouts! At such a young age you can't help but love his talent, unique style, andĀ insatiableĀ drive this guy can only get better as long as he stays healthy. And by then he will have not only the talent, and practice, but he will have a huge experience advantage over his opponents. With already 42 professional fights at 23, he can only get better.
Ā Ā Follow this link to ESPN, they currently have posted a quick HD quality stream of the fight highlights as well as stats, and a fight overview.
So to anyone who reads this, feel free to share your comments, thoughts, and opinions which are greatly valued, and appreciated.
Pugilism Plus Post #1
The reason that I am creating this tumblr in the first place, is to create a convenience for fans of combat sports. Pugilism is nothing more than the art of boxing, which is why this tumblr is called "Pugilism Plus". The āPlusā, represents kicks, elbows, and knees allowed in other combat sports that will be covered throughout my blogs.Ā
This blog is pertinent to the fight fan community because it provides a quick daily reference for news in three sports: boxing, muay thai, and MMA. With so many talented people, and so many events being held, there is no way a fan could possibly watch all the coverage going on at all times. This site pools all the important news from all the major events.Ā
I will encourage anyone who sees my future blogs to post their opinions on the topics I cover. I hope to gain community acceptance through this blog in order for me to continuously make it better from the feedback I am given by readers.
