It came into being just weeks before the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic, and before the bookstores started closing up shop wondering if they’d reopen at all.

comedies that turn into tragedies when the fucked up stuff played for jokes suddenly gets treated with the severity and realness that it would get in real life are genuinely my weakness and hit so much harder than tragedies that start off with the sad stuff.
like not only is the audience caught in the whole "boiling the frog" thing with the comedy slowly become a tragedy but it reveals that the characters are as well; that the previous comedy was only perceived as a comedy because the characters had no clue that what they were going through was not normal and just lighthearted fun. the audience realizes it as the characters do, making them both more sympathetic and their arcs all the more tragic as you look back on what previously happened.

(via @neverquiteeden ) You would be 100% correct, though it was at a younger age than high school would be. He was SO DISTRESSED at the fake-out about the trees and that is why we have Ents. He wrote about it in some of his essays, about how the wordplay was such a let-down from the wonder the prophecies inspired in him, and he used that to fuel his crafting of a story that could capture that wonder.

No fr adults would be a lot healthier if their need for play was more easily satisfied. Play is a fundamental human need that does not go away when we exit childhood but it’s treated as childish and frivolous. No bitch that’s how we process our experiences and knowledge and practice emotions of all kinds in a safe space!! Learn how to play again!
what bugs me about it is every other animal on earth engages in play behaviors all the time. for their entire lives. yet for humans for some reason play isn’t considered normal once you’re a certain age? come on bro. crows are rolling down peoples windshields and sheep are jumping on trampolines. go have fun too

It seems to me that trauma acts very much the same way that malware does in a computer. It gets injected into you by an outside force, and changes your programming, without altering the person you are underneath. I believe you are who you are beneath your trauma, if it could all be stripped away. Trauma gets laid over the top of you, and you have to learn to pull it away from your core programming in order to again reach your natural state, but you are not your trauma.
