Noticing everyone is suddenly way more critical of this chapter than any other. Idk why that could possibly be (eye roll). I thought it was a blast enjoyed the hell out of the platforming thought the theming was great and enjoyed the character development. I thought it was better than chapter 4 slightly and worse than chapter 3 slightly.
My only real big criticisms for deltarune remain that I think it desperately needs an assist mode for disability accommodations and it needs further translations especially Spanish and Portuguese.
When it’s clear that deltarune has a transfem narrative especially around Ralsei everyone becomes way more critical of it. I guess that’s to be expected.
something weird to me about a tme reading of Kris is I notice the people who hc them as transmasc see the things Kris does in the past like the pranks and the way people around them percieved this* (coming back to this) as a Cool Guy Vibe , that they're for lack of better words , boyish and playful. that they're mean in a fun playful way that's intended to be mean. that scaring Noelle and being "creepy" are on purpose as an act of agency. and like , if it was just that its not necessary a horrible thing but a huge missing piece I don't see mentioned by them is that's not how the other characters act . and without acknowledging that it kinda . falls flat for me
a lot of the adults are kinda . weird and aprehensive towards Kris , not to say on purpose at all , but in the church hometown portion (and actually like . most hometown parts rlly dig this feeling into the player) its especially present in talking to toriel , Rudy , and Noelle. asking Noelle about a "key" will have her say "did u mean I was off key?" and toriel hears and interrupts from a different conversation to tell Kris not to tease her. the way toriel and Rudy assume Kris will sing swears . a lot of people treat Kris as if they're just inherently wrong or scary & I'm sure there's plenty more I can't remember exactly right now . my point being theres a level of automatic assumption Kris is harmful , nd like this definitely is apparent , it gives that uncomfortable feeling of alienation and isolation . and Kris also doesn't seem to be very happy about it , looking at what they tell Noelle in her room in weird route . i don't think Kris is like 100% never done anything wrong and is a pure innocent smol bean but it kinda sounds like they were just trying to play and they didn't understand everything about other people/emotions but having the weight of that history being shoved in their face over and over again to hammer in how "bad" they are. doubly so when u take trauma into account
nd like . idk , I think if I was treated like a threat constantly because of an asset of my past self was seen as unchanging and dangerous i really wouldn't want to like . do More pranks yk . like it's just such a huge thing they do when they characterize Kris and its so hard to look past , id get it if it was just a self pleasing hc but to argue that this reading of Kris is *better* is bizzare . I just think Maybe There Is Another Demographic That Relates Better (and has been explaining such for awhile)

Continuing on the trend of "Chapter 3 is practically screaming it at full volume", let's just consider the Sword Route existing. We have HERO_SWORD, an avatar of Kris which DOES fit into Mancountry by the way, starring in a game where Kris has to kill representations of their neighbors, family and friends, in a game that someone who claims to really know Kris, insists they would enjoy. This performance of all these toxic masculine expectations of enjoying violence, complete with a final boss who taunts them for secretly enjoying the fighting and violence. Yeesh
Oh God and if we can go back to "people in Kris's life have a strange habit of personifying them as inherently threatening" can we talk. About Noelle and the "Forced" ferris wheel ride?

Okay, Chapter 5 spoilers, but one scene in it added a lot to this.
Normally, you can't have Kris and Noelle ride the ferris wheel on the normal route. She'll just refuse because she's scared that Kris will shake it again.
To get her to agree you need to first vote for Kris and Noelle as festival king and queen(which person is which doesn't matter I think), and show it to Noelle.
This will remind Noelle of when the two of them voted for each other as kids. Noelle really, really hoped that they would beat Asriel and Dess, but of course they didn't.
Noelle cried at losing, so Kris took her on the ferris wheel. It was never forced in the first place, and they shook the wheel because she had always loved being scared. She freaked out, but she stopped crying.
It was always because they loved her, and understood her better than people who claimed they knew best like Carol. Their actions are just always viewed in the worst light. Because they're an depressed, transfem enby.

I just had a horrifying thought-if controllers can have stick drift can wheelchairs have stick drift??
Decided to look into it and as a warning to all of us I will let you know they absolutely can, for the same reasons controllers for consoles start to. General use over time can cause it, build up of debris and things like that. Pulling it too hard in one direction can also cause it. You should be cleaning your wheelchair anyway because it’s what is sanitary and helps the equipment last longer, but definitely pay some extra attention to the base of the joystick so nothing gets in the way of the sensors.
If you ever start to have this problem reach out to the people that worked towards getting your wheelchair, like the company it’s from or occupational therapy. They might be able to repair it or get you a new joystick.
