Silly thought: Poppy is, in fact, Geeta's adopted kid, but every time someone asks her how that happened, Geeta gives a different answer. Some of her stories for Poppy include:
"She was made in a lab by scientists with the hope to one day usurp my position."
"I'm actually not human, I made Poppy myself."
"She's actually my niece, my sister was no longer capable of caring for her and I've taken the role myself."
"I asked her parents if I could have her and they said yes."
"Diantha only meant to have one daughter and asked if I'd like one of them."
"She simply appeared in my home one day."
"Poppy is actually a rather skilled Trainer from 80 years ago, but had an unfortunate encounter with Jirachi that resulted in a misinterpreted wish."
"I mistook her for a Tinkaton and didn't realise until I had my glasses on." (She doesn't even wear glasses)
"I met her in a Unovan orphanage and simply took her home with me."
"I'm not supposed to speak of it until it's settled in court, but Cynthia owes me quite a small fortune in child support payments."
"She's an extra terrestrial I'm tasked with teaching the joys of Pokemon to."
"She's a haunted doll who began to occupy my home one stormy night long ago..."
"I haven't worked up the courage to tell Rika what happened that night."
"The professor found her wandering around Area Zero. The other Pokemon there seemed scared of her." (This one gets dropped after the professor's demise is revealed)
"It's best not to know." Said with a thousand yard stare.
"Hm? I've told you before, have I not?" She has not.
