It’s not like any kind of abortion legislation that is worded using the phrase “pregnant individuals” would somehow EXCLUDE women who needed abortion access? (It would however ensure that you wouldn’t have some loophole where a trans man who had legally changed their gender marker could be denied abortion services if he needed it.) 

It’s not like if we make the tampon boxes GREEN instead of pink, women won’t be able to buy them any more. It’s not like calling them “personal hygiene products” or “menstrual products” instead of “feminine hygiene products” would some how make them HARDER to buy?

It’s not like anyone would read “people who can get pregnant” or “people who have periods” and get like…confused? They wouldn’t FORGET that those issues impact (most) women? Like, if we somehow say the WORD “women” less often, are people going to FORGET that women…exist? No. They would, at worst, not even notice the somewhat uncommon wording. 

I can’t imagine a single scenario in which using inclusive language in situations where is applies could harm cis women?

I don’t know what harm TERFs THINK that inclusive language would cause. They just don’t want to be lumped in with non-binary folk and trans men. They just don’t want ANYONE to acknowledge that people outside of their narrow and strict idea of the traditional western gender-sex binary exists.

He emerged into the night, ready to run, his head tossing wildly from side to side – only to find Pacifica slouched on a nearby bench, her features illuminated by her cellphone screen.

“Pacifica, I thought you’d left!” he said, throwing a hand through his hair.

She looked up from her phone and a wane smile tweaked her lips. “I was going to call a cab. I didn’t want to walk home alone.”

Pacifica looked usually small where she sat on the bench, her skirt poofed out around her to conceal everything but her feet. He swallowed his fear and said, “I can walk you home. Is that okay?”

Her eyes flicked up to his face, and she replied, “I don’t need your pity. Go inside, see Mabel.”

“No, that isn’t it,” Dipper insisted, crossing the distance between them and stopping short of the bench. “I want to walk with you. I’ve been having such a great time with you.”

If Pacifica understood the subtext, she didn’t let on. After a few seconds of silence, the light of her phone screen dimmed and she tucked it into her small handbag. When she lifted her face to meet his gaze, her mouth was curved in a tentative smile. “Okay. Thanks, Dipper.”

Because just imagine you’re a civilian in Ba Sing Se and you, like your neighbors, and your neighbors’ neighbors, know that The Jasmine Dragon has the best tea in the city. Only you show up one day, and the shop is abandoned. Soon after, the Fire Nation invades, and you find yourself worrying less about tea and more about surviving. You hold your family close as the troops march past your house. You do what you can to stay alive.

One day, you hear a bunch of crashes, and you look outside to see a small group of men wearing robes with white lotus tiles on them. You can only stare in awe as they begin to liberate an entire city. And leading them is…

Just imagine what it must be like to shuffle on inside, where ‘Mushi’ happily greets you with a warm cup and a warmer smile.

In 2016, the tribe sued the city of Williams and other well owners, saying the drilling of more wells for resorts, developments, theme parks and uranium mines, among other businesses, increasingly threatens the tribe’s water. […] Duthie said those sorts of concerns shouldn’t hinder Stilo’s proposal for the hotel on Kotzin Ranch because the company wouldn’t use a well.”)

as of January 24, 2020, Stilo had submitted a “a revised proposal for roads and utility easements connecting to parcels of land they own that are surrounded by the Kaibab National Forest” (unanimously approved). opening these roads would require “some blasting.” as regards the groundwater:

Gitlin also worried that the new proposal did not adequately protect the area’s groundwater.

The proposal promises that commercial water needs — which during peak season, would be 275,000 gallons a day — would have to be hauled in by truck. It still allows “residential uses” to be met by pumping groundwater.

In the proposal, Stilo offered to agree to a “complete prohibition” on commercial groundwater use, except in the event of “technological breakthroughs resulting in proven zero-impact upon groundwater resources.”

It suggested a restrictive covenant or a conservation easement to enforce that restriction, but it’s not clear who would be responsible for that enforcement.

effectively, plans for development are going forward, & previous reassurances that no immediate proposals were being made seem like lies.

it’s worth mentioning in light of some other comments going around that the issue here isn’t preserving the untouched pristine beauty of nature or something–this kind of terra nullius-inflected rhetoric in fact relies upon colonialist & genocidal logic–but rather the responsibilities & livelihoods of the people who belong to the land & stand to be harmed by these proposals.

JOHN MULANEY: I normally don’t notice people. I zone out constantly. Have you ever zoned out for a few minutes? I’ve been zoned out since 2014.

MULANEY: I don’t like sitting up straight! Alright?! It’s never gonna happen! If meditating was sitting hunched over on the toilet with your elbow on your knee while kind of looking at your phone, I’d be the Dalai Lama.

MULANEY: I don’t like sitting up straight. So you sit up straight, and you breathe, and this helps you stay in the moment. Don’t bother! The moment is mediocre at best!

Counter-question: How long before Zuko knew that Toph was blind? 

Counter-counter-question: Do you think Zuko just spent weeks wondering, because sometimes, she seemed blind, but other times, she clearly knew where everything was, even ‘seeing’ stuff he didn’t?

And Zuko, being the newcomer to the group, already trying his best to not be hated, has no idea how to even ask this question. Because, let’s face it, very few people know how to talk to disabled people, and Zuko doesn’t know how to talk to any person, so combine that and I’m just imagining this succession of hijinks as he tries to figure out if she can see or not, without directly asking her.
