Unfortunately, we also get to see how his obsession with dark fountains tore his family apart. All the flowers' attempts to connect with him and enjoy his company are met with spite and neglect. He pushes all of them away in his drive to unearth the truth and prove himself right. Just as he (presumably) did with his own family years ago.

Flower World is kind of a unique situation. Kris made the fountain, but Asgore's the one who pretends the flowers are his friends. Presumably, Asgore imagined personalities for all of them, and Kris would know what those personalities were. And it would make sense if Asgore imagined his flowers having traits based on the people he knows. So when he pushes them away, he's unknowingly reenacting the same things he did to his own friends and family.

Green offers a cake and Asgore refuses it, just like he may have done with Toriel's pie years ago. Kris and Azzy offered to perform something for their father, and he told them he didn't have time, like he does with Blue and Seth. Flowery spends so much time trying to get his best friend to relax, stop overthinking, enjoy life, and Asgore says, "I'm busy, get the papers together for me." Perhaps he did something similar with Rudy once?

I still like Asgore. I think he's a decent guy with a good heart who made some awful mistakes. And in Asgore's defense, it seems like he blames himself for whatever happened to Dess, maybe because he saw it but couldn't do anything, or maybe just because he was the chief of police and felt it was his duty. Just like how he blames himself for his own children's deaths in another timeline, because he was both the king and their father. It's perfectly understandable that these incidents broke him, that he made some bad judgments simply because he wasn't thinking straight, because who would be thinking straight after incidents like those???

the world does not revolve around you, and there will always be things that upset you. BUT the good news is that you literally don’t have to care or even acknowledge things that upset you at all. that’s what the block and mute buttons are for. you cannot control what other people do, even when it involves your blorbos, but you can curate your own internet experiences.
