So I'm thinking of starting a movement for Mike Peterson and Akela Amador.
And possibly include Victoria Hand (#SaveVictoriaHand was more directed at the show to bring her back rather than at fandom) and other characters fandom likes to stomp on (Melinda and Skye, maybe? Although Melinda has #MelindaMayMatters and I’m not sure if Skye has anything). If people have opinions on this, I would really like to hear them, and I’m perfectly fine if people just want this to be for Akela and Mike (or have two separate movements for each). Additionally, it’s been a while since I’ve watched AOS all the way through, so if there are other characters fandom ignores and stomps on that I’ve missed, feel free to bring that to my attention too.
I’m thinking of calling the movement #ISeeYou (or some more AOS-specific variation of that), because these are characters the AOS fandom likes to pretend don’t exist (and when they do, they tend to stomp on them). These characters should not be invisible, and they deserve better.
Also, this movement is not for Ward. At all. Ever.
He has his own movement, and part of the reason I’m making this movement is in response to SWW stans being like “If you don’t think Mike and Akela get enough attention, make a movement yourself, because we want to talk about Ward.” So guess what? I am.
If people are interested, I would really appreciate some help with this. Since all of the characters I mentioned except for Victoria are PoC, I would feel a lot of better if I had someone non-white on board, since as a white person, I don’t want to step out of bounds. I’m bisexual, so I feel more comfortable talking about SJ-related issues as they pertain to Victoria as a queer woman, since it’s not my place to talk about race.
However, this movement isn’t necessarily focusing on SJ-related stuff - those issues are definitely relevant and I’m sure they will come up in meta, but all in all, I want this to be a movement to give these characters more love and attention, like they deserve. Meta, fanart, fic recs, you name it, we want it.
I’m probably going to make a blog for this, if people are interested, and I would like to pick some co-mods. Reply to this post or message me if you’re interested (Ward/Hydra apologists not welcome)! I really hope this thing can get its feet on the ground. These characters deserve better, both from the show, and from the fandom.
