You were off for the day and didnât have anything to do. You thought over your optionsâŚyou could go out for a walk, hang out with some friendsâŚ.or play your favorite game! You settled on the final option and sat at your pc. Proceeding to boot up the game Deltarune, one of your favorites. HoweverâŚwhen you started up the game, you werenât met with the usual prophecy being told, nor did you get to the chapter select. It was just a pitch black screenâŚYou were confused, and frankly worried that something was wrong with your computer in some way. You tampered with your computer, trying figure out what was wrong. Then you opened and closed the game continuouslyâBut nothing happened. After a solid six minutes, something finally popped up on the screen. It was the soul. Your soul.
You sat back down in your chair and started moving around in the game.
You roamed amongst the darkness, with only your glowing soul guiding your way through. There werenât any hallways or corners no matter how far they roamed. It was still dark. It was eerily quiet, besides the sound of quiet garbage noise. You kept going forwardâŚwalking deeper and deeper into the darkness, until you finally met an end. Like the abrupt edge of some kind of cliff, but there was no telling if there was anything below. Nothing happened for a while, causing you confusionâŚUntilâŚ
A giant figure emerged from the darkness. They didnât fit how the rest of the game looked at all. A skeleton with an odd faceâlike it was melted. And pitch black eye sockets, no white pupils like the skeleton in both Undertale and Deltarune. Of course, you werenât that oblivious. You knew who he was.
ââŚARE WEâŚCONNECTED?â
You were given a promptâŚa textbox of two choices.
You chose to answer with âyesâ becauseâŚwell, you did know who he was, obviously. He just chuckled. The sound was odd. It was broken up and sounded abnormal. Piercing your ears. His empty smile widened at your response. âYOU CAN HEAR MEâŚâ
Pupils now filled the void that were his eyesockets and stared directly at you. You looked away from your pc for a moment. âWERENâT YOU LOOKING FOR MEâŚ? I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU.â He spoke calmly to you, and slowly took the soul into his hands. The soul was far smaller compared to him. And you couldnât believe what you were experiencing. You felt lightheadedâŚyour vision was blurred, and it felt like everything outside of your computer screen faded out of your line of vision.
âWONDERFUL, ISNâT IT? YOU AND IâŚHERE, IN THIS MOMENT?â
âIâVE BEEN WATCHING YOU, CLOSELY ON YOUR JOURNEYâŚTELL ME, HAS IT BEEN FUN?â He seemed to be petting the soul with his finger. He cannot truly feel youâŚthe one on the other side of the screen. But you, as an in-game soul was enough for him. He cherished your acknowledgment of him. And needed you for what heâd been planning.
Once again, you were prompted with responses.
You answered âyesâ, this was your favorite game after allâŚHe seemed very satisfied with your answer. âVERY INTERESTINGâŚI AM RELIEVEDâŚWATCHING YOU EXPLORE THIS WORLD, IT HAS BEENâŚENTERTAINING.â
âYOUR BATTLES, YOUR INTERACTIONSâŚYOUR CONNECTIONS. OUR CONNECTIONâŚâ
âYOU FEEL IT TOO, CORRECT?â
What. What exactly did he mean? You were caught off guard by the question. But you responded to it, anywayâŚlike the other prompts he gave you. You still felt quite dizzy trying to look away from your computerâŚThe way he toyed with and handled the soul was hypnotizing.
âCANâT YOU SEE, HOW MUCH I NEED YOU? DO YOU NEED ME AS MUCH AS I NEED YOU?â
âTO BE SEEN LIKE THISâŚFINALLY, AFTER WAITING FOR SO LONG. IT ISâŚQUITE EXCITING. I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BONESâŚA TREMBLING SENSATION. WONT YOU LET ME SEE YOU, AS WELL?â
Instead of the usual textbox that popped up, it was a notification for Deltarune to have access to your camera! You thought about it for a moment. Were you going to regret this later on? MaybeâŚbut you were curious to see where this was going. So you allowed itâŚpossibly a stupid decision. He seemed satisfied, and laughed. His face seemed to melt a littleâŚmaking him look even more uncanny. You couldnât believe what was happening.
âI FINALLY SEE YOU. THE ANGELâŚIS EVEN MORE MAGNIFICENT THAN I THOUGHT. SHALL WEâŚLEARN MORE ABOUT ONE ANOTHER, WHILE WE STILL HAVE THIS MOMENT?â
You nodded your head. There wasnât any point in a textbox anymore for âyesâ or ânoâ questions. Since, he can see you now. You were about to begin a date with him.
ââŚGOOD. IâVE WAITED THIS LONG FOR YOU. NOW, TELL ME ALL ABOUT YOUâŚâ
Alas, you were blessed with yet another box, this time, you could freely type whatever you want. SoâŚyou told him about yourself. Your life and hobbies, how you like to dressâŚwhat you do in your free time. His face changed and shifted at what you had to tell him. He was incredibly interested in you. Even though this was normal, day to day human stuffâŚhe was absolutely fascinated to hear about it. His smile widened.
âYOUâŚARE AN INCREDIBLE BEING, ANGEL.â
And so, the both of you kept talking. Holding strong conversations through his sheer curiosity and fascination with you. It felt odd to you, but you couldnât deny the fact you were enjoying this. What he had to say was equally as interestingâŚIt was something you were always curious about for years. The feeling of fascination was mutual. Although, the man on your computer screen seemed to be moreâŚin love than anything. He admired you and was curious about every single aspect of your life. Said ânormalcyâ didnât matter to him, because of his blind affection for you. He wanted to know your flaws, your feelingsâEverything. He spent all of his life dedicated to researching on ways to reach you. To connect with youâŚand only you. So this moment meant more than you initially thought.
For the first time since you booted up the game, you looked away from your computer. Everything was still quite blurredâŚbut you could tell it was dark out. How long have you been sat at this chair, talking to him? You checked the time, it was 1 in the morning now. You looked back at your computer, back at him. Your realization wasnât lost on him, he knew he was taking up all of your time. Heâs been dragging out conversations just for you to keep him companyâŚ
âIT APPEARSâŚWEâVE MET AN END? YOU WISH THE LEAVE, I CAN SEE THAT...â
âWILL WE BE MEETING EACH OTHER LIKE THIS MORE OFTENâŚ?â
You nodded your headâŚdespite your better judgement. Just wanting to go to sleep and get rid of the fuzzy feeling in your head.
âI SEE. VERY WELL THEN. THANK YOU. FOR YOUR COOPERATION.â
And that was it. The game closed on itâs own, and you released a sigh of both relief and exhaustion. You sat there for a moment, thinking over everything that you just experienced. There was a funny feeling in your stomachânot sickness or anything close to thatâŚbut something else. Something you didnât wish to think about at all. So you turned off your computer and started getting ready for bedâŚNow tucked in your covers and ready to sleep, but you couldnât stop thinking about it all.
