We’re currently working on getting to know each other and working together as a team. Stay tuned for our first publication coming out in August and our first counseling offerings even sooner!

For those interested in joining our team, I'll direct you to our application page where you can learn about our positions and see what we’re looking for in applicants for each position. We are currently looking for writers and editors, for the most part, but applications for all positions are accepted. We’re going to stop accepting applications for our first publication on April 15th so we have time to start production with our team. After April 15th, any applications received will be considered for our second publication, scheduled to come out in November. So if you want to be part of our first publication cycle, you should apply before April 15th.

I’m here with an update from Project College on our new additions to the team! We’ve accepted our first members and founders and are still accepting additional member applications here, we especially need writers and editors. Read above for more info on our team and our progress with production.

TO ALL APPLICANTS AND THOSE WANTING TO APPLY

While I’d love to have anyone interested in contributing to our project on the team, we primarily need qualified, experienced people on our team to get us started. One of the biggest qualifications I have is the ability to follow written instructions and one of my ways of testing that is by having application requirements on the promotional tumblr posts, on the /apply page, and on the applications themselves. If you don’t follow these instructions then you’ve shown you’re less qualified to be on the team. Please, read all instructions and requirements carefully because I would love to see valid applications from all of you and accept all of you into the team!

With that said, here is the link to apply to be part of the Project College team. Right now we are accepting college students and some high school seniors to help out.

So I was typing up a couple of really nice letters and my computer froze, so bear with me while I retype them on the tumblr app

Okay wow people need to chill. Like, do you guys know how many fashion magazines, blogs, and websites there are? Do you know how much content they have that is exactly the same, but written in different words, by different people, because they are all in the same industry? This is the same thing. The Academic doesn't have a monopoly on this idea, so it's totally ridiculous to persecute another person who happened to have a similar idea.

So this zine is copyrighted. And I keep getting messages telling me that I’m breaking copyright law. To be clear copyright does not protect ideas, nor does it even protect names or slogans, it more protects content. In this case, literary content. I haven’t produced content yet so you would think I’d be ok, lol. To defend the zine, I don’t think they’re trying to claim a monopoly on this idea, they just have a brand that they want to protect and my blog description was similar to their slogan. While not protected by copyright law, if it means I will stop getting threats of legal action or stop receiving mean-spirited messages I will remove any likeness to their slogan from the Project College blog if they tell their members and followers to stop accusing me of copyright infringement and remove any accusations of copyright infringement

Happy timezones friends! It has come to my attention that some members of a studyblr zine think I have unjustly copied their work and I think it’s time to address this! I have yet to read a full issue of their work, I have yet to speak to any of their founders or editors in chief about this issue. That being said, I will try my best to use neutral words about them concerning their identities and their personalities bc I haven’t gotten the chance to get to know them and I have no reason to call them rude or threatening. I will also try my best to only involve myself in this matter, not my staff, they don’t deserve to get caught up in this. The members of the zine’s main points are this: I am using a theme which they used to use on their website, I am using essentially the same tag line, my application page is incredibly similar in format and content, and I never spoke to the zine about it or applied once.

To the members, you’re right. It is fishy that I’m using the same theme that you all used to have and the application page being similar is definitely questionable. However, I only started viewing the academic zine recently, I never saw their use of the theme Project College uses. I’ve noticed they have a hit tracker on their website; if they search the history of their hit tracker they will see that my ip address most likely won’t show up having visited their website while they had the previous theme (unless someone else in my neighborhood read their zine). The same goes for the application page (until recently when I checked their app page to see what the similarities are). I created the application page free of input from others, I thought of the application process myself after working at a non-profit for a year and seeing how they handled applications.

Currently, Project College has no tagline, we have a description on our site that gives you a general jist of what to expect from us. I’m waiting to talk to my staff about developing a tagline. Our blog descriptions are similar, though. I’m here to promise that I won’t steal the zine’s tagline, after all, that would be plagiarism.

The members of the zine are correct in stating that I never spoke to the representatives of the zine about creating Project College. I also never applied. I wanted to create my own niche in the studyblr community as a college student, so I did. I entirely meant for Project College to be a positive addition to the studyblr community. Don’t get me wrong, I had heard of their zine before announcing Project College. I read snippets of their issues before creating Project College to see if their content was going to be the same as what I hoped to publish. Why? Because I didn’t want to be copying their ideas. I’ve worked on two of my school’s newspapers for three years. I was also an editor for my school’s yearbook. I know the hard work that goes into publishing and I would never want to plagiarize work.

I would like to think about it like this: if I had been a member of their zine and decided to create a tangent zine specifically for college I would hope that I would have gotten support from them. So I wish for support now, if I won’t get that, then I hope they don’t try to sabotage my work or deface my public identity.

The studyblr community is not a place to threaten people or tell them to hurt themselves. The studyblr community is a safe space to embrace differences and find similarities. The studyblr community is a place for civil discourse and creative problem-solving. I am hoping to talk to the zine reps to resolve this issue.

It's not a network, you're literally calling it a zine too. Your blog is too close to the zine for comfort in my opinion. I'm pretty sure that's theft of intellectual property.

It’s both a network and a zine to me. That’s what I’ve advertised Project College as and that’s what I’ve told applicants. I definitely want to start production for and successfully distribute the Project College zine, but I know I shouldn’t if my material is said to be plagiarized. I have original ideas about what to publish in the Project College zine and on tumblr. I don’t intend to steal anything or advertise myself as the original zine. Please show me what material I have that is intellectual property of the Academic and I will get rid of it

Project College is literally students too :) I understand what it is to be copyrighted, I’ve worked on copyrighted material before. I definitely don’t mean to be plagiarizing and if it I’m receiving all these messages over what I’ve put in my blog description I will make a new blog description

Your magazine isn't really that revolutionary. The Academic is by students, for students (just like their tagline says). You're kind of ripping off their idea tbh.

Use kind words, friend! Project College is revolutionary in my book because most academic services helping students into college are offered by guidance counselors and other adults who, while trained, lack fresh memories of completing the application process themselves. I understand the Academic has a tagline, in no way am I going to publish work using their tagline as Project College’s motto. Imitation is the best form of flattery and while Project College is not the same as the Academic and was not directly inspired by the Academic, the fact that Project College was created along similar lines to the Academic Zine proves that they have a good idea and I admire their good idea. I think the studyblr community is big enough for both of our good ideas. :)

Was this inspired off The Academic zine? :) The "run by students for students" sounds exactly like their "by students, for students" tagline

I had heard of the Academic Zine before I opened the applications for Project College, but reading their material didn’t inspire any new ideas in me. Project College had been an idea my friend and I had thought of in our senior year of high school before I had even joined the studyblr community and saw the Academic Zine. Meaning no disrespect to the Academic, I would assume the Project College blog description sounds similar to their tagline because we are, in fact, both run by students creating content for students. I don’t plan on publishing “by students, for students” as our tagline so the staff at the Acacdemic won’t have to worry about me stealing their tagline.

When can we expect to hear back about applications?

You can expect to hear back within two weeks (at most) if you were accepted. Unfortunately, we can’t contact every unaccepted applicant who applies to let them know they were not accepted, so if you haven’t gotten any contact from Project College within two weeks that may be the case. Be sure to check your spam folder for an acceptance letter just in case.

Cultural argument essays of any length are welcome! However, if you chose to submit additional material, all of the extra material together must total five pages or less

Hi so I have made multiple websites for my website development classes in school and I'm a high school senior so I am planning to apply but the server I was using changed so I am not able to use it anymore and now the website I want to submit to the application only shows up on my home computer. Still accepting founder’s applications for Project College!

If you don’t know what Project College is, it’s a network/zine that I’m making that will help high school studyblrs get into and get through college. Right now we are accepting college students and some high school seniors to help out. We won’t being production until May so you’ve got some time to apply but if you would like a special founders position (with special perks) then I advise you to apply now, or at the very least before the end of February because that’s when I’ll stop accepting people as founders.

I am looking for:

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY

You’re helping others! I mean, wouldn’t it feel good to help someone get into college??

You can put your work on your CV/Resumé, Project College is going to be very organized and produce material every three months. You will be able to put that material in a portfolio or CV if you chose

You’ll make some friends! There are already a few great studyblrs applying to be a part of project college and you’ll get to know them as we all work together

If you’re not sure what you want to do we can create a position for you! As long as you’re dedicated to helping others, you are welcome to join the team!

There are no requirements. No age requirements, no grade requirements, and no requirements concerning what you study.
