As I am on topic of Frieren, let me share another thought. Jokes about non-chalant queens and their dramatic kings aside, there is little character similarity between Jinshi and Himmel (even Maomao and Frieren, though that is talk for another day). Apart from the fact both stories have completely different contextual and character settings, in terms of theme of Love also (in fact, from the onset of their interactions with Female Leads to their ideas of self), Jinshi and Himmel hardly converge.
Himmel met Frieren as a child and was absolutely ensnared by her, so much so he decided the only mage accompanying him on his journey would be her. Similarly, Jinshi was also enraptured by Maomao at the very onset but we have to understand Jinshi's feelings regarding Maomao attained certainty a bit later in the story. Moreover, while Himmel had his heart set on Frieren the moment they met and his resolve being unwavering, Himmel became quite at peace with his feelings, irrespective of chances of reciprocity. So much so, that he even honoured the unrequited love till his death. Jinshi's turbulent navigation with his love for Maomao is a significant hallmark of his character. And conveying the entirety and extent of his feelings regarding Maomao to not only her but others as well remains his major focus.
Both Himmel and Jinshi are devoted men in love archetype but for Himmel devotion materialises more in terms of idea than any scope for actualising. Jinshi's devotion is all about bending his reality in a way that him and Maomao can live together.
Another major divergence in both character arcs is their attitude towards perceived images in their respective universes. Himmel lived and died a hero, he wanted to be the one. Himmel wanted to carry the burden of title, Jinshi does not. Jinshi is actually trying to escape the altruistic reality of his title, not because he is a slacker but because he is insecure about his abilities. Moreover, Jinshi is not ready to pay the cost attached with inheriting the crown with his freedom. Jinshi somewhere craves obscurity. Himmel moved with sheer conviction, Jinshi moves with sheer intuition. Himmel lived to become an eternal symbol of humanity's hope against demons, Jinshi lives to escape the fate of every head that wears the crown. In fact, I feel like Jinshi might be able to relate more with Stark (both are kind of insecure, had burdened childhoods, are kind of bratty, have fallen in love with difficult and avoidant women, etc).
So, while I understand the tendency to put them together in terms of their sparkly demeanor and their overreaction to their women's actions, plus not forgetting the unbridled, unrelenting, persistent yearning, I think Himmel and Jinshi shared little in terms of characteristics.
In fact Himmel is exactly the kind of person Jinshi would have entrusted with Empire to run off to some place normal to live peacefully with Maomao!
But these are just my thoughts, maybe I am not able to see parallels as clearly as others see, so I can be wrong!
