To me, a deep irony of being autistic is 70% of the time I donāt get other peopleās sarcasm, but 80% of the time other people donāt get my sarcasm.

To other autistic people, growing up, did it ever feel like everyoneās interests were changing but you were the only one to just keep your childhood interests?
Like for me, in high school everyone was getting intoĀ āmore teenage thingsā, and it felt like I was one of the only few that generally preferred cartoons andĀ ākids stuffā
Lol, I couldāve written this post.
Dear neurotypical people and allistic peopleā¦
Autistic people get crap for not asking for helpĀ āsoonerā when weāre found floundering around in frantic, frustrated confusion.Ā
The irony is when we do break down and ask for help or clarification, we get told āyou should know that alreadyā, or that āitās silly that you donāt understand something so simpleā or, my personal non-favoriteĀ āI already explained that to you!ā
Or we see you roll your eyes, hear you sigh, hear your voice get that annoyed condescending tone and have to listen to you talk to us like weāre the most unintelligent things to grace your presence.
Can you stop doing that shit to us?
Some examples of questions I might ask someone may be:
āWhen you say smaller, do you mean shorter or narrower or literally smaller in scale with the same proportions?ā āDo you want the shade of purple lighter and closer to pink or darker and closer to blue?ā āIf you say a lot of that, do you want 20 copies or a higher number of copies?ā
Luckily Iām mostly around people who know I think in specifics and will be specific for me, but during my teens I had the opposite. It messed me up for asking for help as an adult.
Many autistic people are terrified to ask for help when we really need it because itās a huge hunk of emotional labor and oftentimes the payoff doesnāt get us the answers we need to do something weāre expected to do.
Just answer the questions we ask even if itās the 902834092834th time we asked about it. I know itās annoying, but we want to do our best and how can anybody do their best if the help they seek makes them feel bad about themselves or question their intelligence?
autistic culture is pressure stimming by sitting in a certain position for so long that you plant your face on the ground when you try to get up bc your feet went numb
No offense but I hate it when people sit down next to me to smokeā¦like sweetieā¦I was here breathinā¦
same but with offenseĀ

other great things about being a smart kid: anytime you ever struggle with anything your parent/teacher/authority figureās reaction is an irritated āyouāre smart! i know you can get this!ā
YES. THANK YOU. THE ONLY REASON IāM NOT INSTANTANEOUSLY AN EXPERT IS THAT I WANT TO MAKE IT SPECIFICALLY HARDER ON YOU. AND MYSELF! I LOVE MUTUAL AGONY AND TORTURE. IT BRINGS ME JOY TO FRUSTRATE VENGEFUL ADULTS.
I was thinking about this recently because as glad as I am that I wasnāt put down, I donāt like this being the reaction every time I go for help.
āIām struggling with this, help!ā
āNo itās easy! Youre capable! Youāre just not trying hard enough!ā *doesnt help or give advice* *lets person take full consequences of subsequent failure or even punishes them for it*
Results in
a) believes asking for help is not acceptable and will just make other people resent you
b) interprets āyou can do itā as an ultimatum, eg. āFailure will not be tolerated!ā
c) on that note, difficulty accepting genuine encouragement because it feels like a threat
And Iāve been wondering all my life why I absolutly cannot deal with failure to the point I take no risks at all even in games while I know Iām someone who would enjoy taking risks... Thanks teachers, parents, whoever else
The Great Bot Purge 2018
Tumblr is in an epidemic. The porn bot apocalypse is here. And itās really, really, really, really, really annoying. Even more annoying than me saying really five times in a row because letās face it:

Howdy bro, my profile here.
Lately the probability of finding a comment like this in the notes has gone up from 100% to a 10000% and itās seriously impacting our user experience.
I have been here since 2010, @staff. Started out as wolf blog and in 2012 I used to share my poetry and made eight super good friends to which I am still talking today! But now what?
Itās pretty safe to say that there are a number of bot networks active on this website. The one asking for bitcoin and the aforementioned ālooking for funā one for example. The bots follow a pattern and because itās a network it should be easy to roll up.
I know we always point at @staff to fix this, but honestly, itās not an easy fix. I know many people block bots, but do we also report and flag them? How does staff respond to flags?
Anyway, here is what I and 10,000 other people who started following this blog over the last 24 hours propose:
We purge the bots. The porn bots. All of them. This is going to be one big COORDINATED effort to destroy the bots!
For one month we are going to report and flag those blogs, and make sure we cut their profits so they donāt make enough money to support their bot network.
Itās very important that we do this as a community. This is a movement. Everyone has to join so we can limit the outcome of this battle to only two possibilities:
We win this battle
@staff really doesnāt give a shit

How can people make so much noise existing?
Like walking, opening the fridge, taking a spOON IN THEIR HAND!
autistic culture is making random lists for no reason other than because it Feels Goodā¢
Because someoneĀ blocked me as a response to being called out on shit before I could post my reply to a particularly nonsensical argument, here is my response to anyone who says that strict parenting can teach autistic kids not to melt down in public.Ā
While in some ways that is true - compliance training (otherwise known as ABA) is known to have superficial behavioural effects - the fact of the matter is that it is incredibly damaging to teach your child that they cannot respond to pain or sensory overload in the way their body demands.Ā
Also this makes the unbelievably ignorant assumption that meltdowns are justĀ ābad behaviourā that needs to be trained out of the child in order for them to be socially acceptable to an uninformed public.Ā
This could not be further from the truth.Ā We need to be teachingĀ the public, not forcing children to bend to their ignorance!Ā
My parents were extremely strict. I got away with exactly nothingĀ (they were actually abusive as well, but we wonāt go into all that here). Guess what? I still, as an autistic adult, have meltdowns and shutdowns in publicĀ when my body and brain canāt take any more stress and stimulation.
This isnāt to say that compliance-training your autistic kids does nothing. On the contrary - what teaching them to worry about other peopleās disapproval doesĀ is make them more anxious and therefore moreĀ susceptible to sensory overload. Itās a horrible Catch-22.Ā
Just donāt.Ā
Teach your kids to have good manners, of course - but pleaseĀ donāt train them to suppress their pain and overstimulation for the sake of being inconspicuous. You canāt imagine the damage you are doing.Ā
Oh, and one more thing:Ā
Just because youĀ have a sibling/relative/friend whose parents trained them not to melt down in public doesnāt meanĀ
a) itās a good idea orĀ
b) it works for all autistic kids.Ā
Your second-hand experience does not negate the firsthand knowledge of thousands of autistic people.Ā
Step off.Ā

How to not feel shattered and lost when plans are cancelled
Anyone know how to contact Rick Riordan and get him to write an autistic demigod?
Seriously. Heās done gay, nonbinary, dyslexic, muslim etc. characters to raise awareness and acceptance, why not make an autistic demigod?
It would show so many kids and teens that autism = not a bad or shameful thing. Like he did with ADHD for demigods, even showing it as a positive.
Please.
Autistic NY Black teen gets lost running 5K, assaulted by a white man whoās afraid of getting mugged.
For more than two years, Clarise Coleman faithfully attended every track practice and every cross-country meet for her son, Chase.
A few weeks ago, Chase, who is a nearly nonverbal autistic child, was running in a meet in Rochester, New York, with his team from Corcoran High School - was assaulted by a stranger in the middle of a race.
Coleman was waiting for him at a part of the course where runners would come down a hill but he didnāt appear and she went looking for him. She was shouting his name and then she started to meet people who pointed in the direction of her son. One of them said:
āI see a grown man, who is quite tall and fairly heavy ⦠exit the vehicle and give this young man a shove that puts him back 10 feet and flat on his butt. Like, just shoved him across the road. The kid didnāt seem to be doing anything but standing there, obviously had nothing in his hands and weighed all of 130 pounds. This guy was easily twice that.ā
This tall white guy was a 57-year-old man named Martin MacDonald who told the police that the reason he attacked the Black kid was he thought Chase was going to mug his wife and take her purse.
āMy son is a minor. [MacDonald is] a grown man,ā Coleman said she told police. āHe put his hands on my son. Of course I want to press charges.ā
However the police was deaf and on Oct. 21, Rochester City Court Judge Caroline Morrison sent a letter to the Colemans that shocked them:Ā
She had denied their warrant application, and MacDonald would not be charged for second-degree harassment.
Now the autistic Black boy refused to go to practices and skipped running in his last meet of the season. He turned his running uniform in to his coach, who gently encouraged him to change his mind. Chase refused.
āWe just keep telling him, āYou didnāt do anything wrong. Chase is good. There are mean people and there are nice people and this person was just a mean person,ā ā Coleman said. āWe just keep apologizing to him that happened. Especially me. I kept apologizing to him that I couldnāt keep him safe.āĀ
The attack deeply traumatized him and he lost one of the few things that gave him a sense of pride and belonging.
Please, make a shout outĀ to this outrageous accident! The white man still didnāt receive any punishment for ruining life of the Black boy. THIS IS HELL!

Being is autistic is needing we more time and energy, so much more time and energy to adapt to a new place and new people
Broke my heart yesterday when I saw this car with a disabled badge going back and forth trying desperately to found a parking spot near their apartment, but every spot was taken, including disabled spots by cars that didnāt have any sticker People are so not aware of their privileges. They can walk. They can easily walk a bit, they could just park their car a bit further, there were parking spots there, but no, itās so tiiiiring to carry your grocery bag for a few steps more than if you just parked in the spot conceived for disabled peopleās cars.Ā
Iām disabled. Iām autistic. And, honestly, Iām often afraid to park in some parking spots because Iām not so good with space awareness and a big parking spot could be very helpful for me. But I donāt because Iām still able to park in a smaller parking spot and I definitely donāt need the big space. With a bit of time and focus, I can park in smaller parking spots. I definitely can.
Able-bodied people are so entitled that stealing accommodations seems fair to them.Ā āWell, we donāt see many disabled people around here, so might as well occupy this spaceā. Until someone really needs the disabled bathroom stall, until someone has to use the disabled parking spot because they donāt have a choice in it.Ā
Be aware of your privileges. And be aware of people who donāt have them. Respect their needs.Ā

Never apologize for being yourself. Never apologize for talking about what you love or for sharing that love with other people and please, never apologize for doing what you love.
The world needs more people that are passionate and enthusiastic about anything and everything, and the people that donāt agree simply arenāt worth your time.
Do what you love and give it your all. Do what makes you happy and ignore everyone that doesnāt care.
Your happiness is worth so much in a world like this, and your passion and drive is so inspiring and beautiful.
Everyday Iām more and more convince Iām autistic
I had a group project to do today and I asked a question about why one of the girl changed something and she just said that anyway it would not be graded so we could change it, I didnāt get it. And I still donāt because I was "politelyā told to stop āarguingā.
So I snapped and almost cried
Not like she told me I needed to say it when I didnāt understand...
