Guy... We Need To Have Another Chat. My band of Brothers
So with Damirae Week coming to a successful end, I thought I would take the time to remind everyone why we do what we do in creating and promoting our fandom. And I was so happy to see new creators emerge and share their work with us. You guys killed and I am so proud you.
But as great as Damirae Week was, I know some of us are feeling a bit defeated with DC’s decision to promote BBrae in Fortnight. I know it’s a sad blow; I’ve been some variant of a Robrae shipper since I was about 15 years old, but 15 years later, I’m still here and have no intention of going anywhere. And here is why.
I love comics, I’ve loved the cast of DC characters ever since I was a little girl. I grew up with Batman the animated series and I loved the OG Teen Titans series. The crazy thing is I had no idea fanfiction existed, I didn’t find that rabbit hole until I was in my very early 20′s. And even then, it took me a few years to finally drum up the courage to write something and post for all the internet to see. And I did because, I too, was tired of DC ignoring me, and not giving my ship the time of day while prioritizing one group of fans over the other. But as oppose to just complaining about it on the internet I thought “Well who better to write the stories I wanna read myself, but me?” That’s not meant to be taken as me stroking my own ego, it just that I realized that is what fanfiction is. It’s fans sharing their ideas and love of that medium. And at the end of the day, we write for ourselves and the “Happy Few” as I referent to them (thank you Shakespeares) who wish to read it.
Leaving doesn’t solves anything; we’re stronger a group: A Band of Brother’s if you will (again thanx Billy Shakes). We create works for fellow fans who get it and love it. Walking away because DC overlooks us is what our haters want. If we walk away, they win. We don’t.
What we need to do is stand together, promote each other, help each other grow. Without the support of our fellow shipmates, we’re nothing. Our ship might be small, but it’s growing. I wasn’t here a year ago, but I’m here now and I’m not alone. And those of you who have been here since day one, stay, help steer the ship. We need all of you. Don’t walk away. If we could count on DC to write the stories most of us want, a lot of us wouldn’t be here. And lot of us would probable never be friends. (cause we’d never meet.)
So before anyone jumps ship, just remember the Happy Few who read your work, like you strifes, leave nice comments, they’ll be sad without you. I’ll be sad without you. We’re in this together, “We few, we happy few, we Band of brothers (sisters); we share our passion; our blood, sweat and tears (literal tears just ask @ViLaVi and @ravenfan1242 they know). We’re all here for you and cheering you on. Don’t give up now, you’ve come too far.
Anyway, if this post help keeps even one of Walking, I’ll be happy, but I hope you all stay a while longer.
