Ukko's axe, or in finnish "Ukon kirves". This is the symbol of finnish god of thunder, Ukko. Ukko meaning "old man". Ukko is also reference to the word "Ukkonen" meaning "Thunderstorm".

As the rest of the nords had Thor, we had Ukko. Also unlike Thors hammer, Ukko had an axe, the necklace being on the shape of axes blade. Axe was the most important tool we had and has so much cultural value to us, so ofcourse our main god would field one.

This symbol protects its wearer from the natural elements, as thunderstorms and blizzards are the most dangerous ones we have here.

Keeping with the theme, all of my necklaces have the same kind of leather cord. Its made by hand from finnish elk leather. It is durable and nice to wear.

I decided to give you some inside and descriptions behind the items I forge. There is always something more personal in every item I make as I give something from myself to it.

This is the newest necklace design I have at the moment. The Sickle.

The sickle is sociated with the moon and its connection to change. This is why sickle is close to the shape of moons sickle, its symbolizes change, growth and renewal. Its also connected to to cyclical nature of life and death.

I'm not that kind of creator that sit down with a pen and paper and start sketching things. Most of the designs I have comes from just when forging. I might do some other item and at some point an inspiration just hits me like "Hey, this almost remind me of some other thing. There might be something there". I usually stop the work I was currently doing and start trying the new thing out. Thats what happened with this item.

Another kitchen knife has been added to my Etsy shop. This one is a design that I made start of the summer. Elegant and beautifully curved high carbon steel knife with padauk handle secured with brass rivets. This is perfect for utility kitchen knife. With its curved edge, it cuts easily meat, vegetablets, fruits and herbs.

Some new items added to my Etsy shop! This cleaver is forged from high carbon steel, with wenge and curly birch handle. The handle is made in oktagon shape which provides better grip when cutting something slippery like fish. Curved edge of the blade makes it perfect for cutting not only meat but vegetables and herbs also.

I'm back to the workshop from vacation. Got some new ideas up in my sleeves and new things coming up! Today I have tested up some new design like this Ukko's Axe. Here in Finland we didn't have norse gods like Thor or Odin, but our own ones. Our main god is Ukko, meaning old man. He is the god of thunder, swinging his axe at the sky when he was pissed off, making the thunder and lighting... So very very frightning.

New ring design out of the forge. This little serpent is forged from stainless steel. First change to get one of these is at John Smith metal festifal at Laukaa, Jyväskylä (Finland). After that, next week, I'll be adding this to My Etsy shop.

Finally got some tools to film stuff at the workshop. Still long way to go for more nicer stuff, but I have to start somewhere 🙂

Everyone has a different style of coming up with new things. I have noticed long time ago that just sitting down and drawing some designs isnt for me. Over the years the inspiration might just come to me when im working on something else. If I have time, I stop what I was currently doing and start working on the new idea. Does any of you have the same thing?

New necklace added to my Etsy shop! A double-edged barbarian axe, or "Tappara" as it is known here in Finland. Mostly these are portraited on fantasy, at the hand of hyborean barbarians or wielded by roaring superhuman space viking werewolves in the name of the Emperor.
