so, i live in upstate new york in a very left wing town, my family is very queer and my friends are too. in general quite welcoming.

around spring last year, a new person moved in and started going to my school. i was pretty sure they were a fellow trans woman (they were) and we became friends. as we got closer and our parents did too, we learnt that they had actually moved from texas and decided to live here because they say our yard signs and pride flags on the front of the house.

if you're ever thinking "why am i doing all this? why am i being prideful and being loud even if it's dangerous right now?", then remember that, as much as just existing can make others angry, it can let others know that they're safe now, and that it can get better.
