MerMay 2018 - Day 3 - Racy READ THE STORYππ» Mermay 3rd Racy He had taken a liking to midnight walks on the beach, where the brine of the waves crashed into a dark oblivion. He liked to toe the line between the rushing ocean that licked at his ankles and the soft sand that sank beneath his toes. The ground lit up in bioluminescence, a recently magical experience that felt as though someone had plucked the stars from the sky and planted them in the shores of the Tasmanian Bay. It was like walking on a watered galaxy and should have been reason enough for these nightly excursions, but what really drew him was not the pull of the moon, or the chorus of the ocean, but herβlying in a bed of bioluminescence as the waves rushed to cling to her iridescent skin. The drops of water beading and falling like pearls from her hair. He was entranced by the column of her neck where three perfectly cut slits would shudder before lying flat against her skin; his eyes devouring the soft lines of her face, the pout of her lips, and her inhumanly sharp eyes. Yet, the most exquisite thing about her was the elegant line of her body, a perfect sculpture of a beautiful curve. Her scales reflected the light of the blue algae gleaming like duo chrome, deceptively soft and dangerously strong. Her fins flipped nonchalantly against the sand, as if keeping a beat to a melody only she could hear. His heart stuttered in his chest as she turned her eyes upon him, ancient and knowing. How long had she been alive? Was she the only one left? Why did she come every night? The questions were bubbles waiting to burst off the tip of his tongue, but he held them back. βCome, sit with me,β She said, extending her hand. His knees buckled as his ears drank the sound of her voice, dark and sweet as amber honey. He closed the distance between them, taking her hand and lying next to her. She smiled softly and placed her palm against his cheek. Her skin was cool a welcome to the flush of heat he felt rising in his face. βYou come here every night just to see me, donβt you?β He swallowed thickly, parting his lips and trying to tear his eyes from her lips, βDo you hate it?β Her laugh echoed in his chest and he barely noticed the rush of the water as it pushed and pulled. Her hand fell away and he instantly craved to be touched again. βYou humans just canβt control your curiosity can you? How easily it becomes obsession.β Her eyes glowed as her stunning countenance contorted with painful amusement. He could not stop himself from reaching out to trace her face with his shaking fingertips and sucked in a breath when she leaned into his palm. Her skin felt like smooth marble, perfectly cut and inhuman. βI guess weβre just obsessed with beauty,β he murmured softly. Her gaze was like the King Tide, pulling him as she leaned close enough to share the salty air between them. βWhen will you humans ever learn,β She whispered against his lips grinning with a row of sharply pointed teeth, βthat the more beautiful the creature the more dangerous they are.β -Written by Melissa OβLeary
