[ Video Description: A TikTok by @/jasunmark, an older bald man with a mostly gray beard reacting to a comment that says, βThose family members were always so surprised how much of the community would show up. As if we were such abominations that we couldn't form true bonds.β The man says, βOh my gosh, you are not kidding. Um, on the occasion of the families would show up to the funerals, they would always react in just, shock that there were so many people there, they would go, βOh my gosh, I didn't know he had this many friends, he didn't have many friends in highschool like this.β and we're like, βYeah, yeah, we - we know. We were also that guy.β Um, it was - it was pretty wild, um, one weird story that I'm - I'm gonna tell was, uh, I was once a pallbearer in the funeral for a guy that I, uh, barely knew and, um, what had happened was most of his close friend circle was either - they were already gone or were just not strong enough to carry a - a casket and a guy that I'm actually still in touch with now, uh, called me up and said, βHey, do you remember such-and-such?β and I'm like, βMm, I don't think so.β he said, βWell, uh, this guy, y'know he used to wear thisβ I'm like, βOh yeah, I remember him.β βWe need a pallbearer.β and I'm like, βWhat?β He goes, βMost of his friends are gone, the family has been really super supportive, and we wanna stack the funeral.β So, we stacked the funeral. There were people going to this thing that had never met him, like, we just, we got like, I don't know, twenty, thirty people to show up at this thing, and listen, by that point in the gay community, um, funerals were social, they were like, I mean they were as common as pool parties in Palm Springs and they actually became, like, social events, it was weird. Um, that, y'know that sometimes it was the only time you were seeing some of these people. Uh, which is really strange, but I remember going to this funeral, being one of the pallbearers, talking to the family, um, just y'know, doing this whole thing because his family was so supportive, we wanted them to s- to see their son get a good send off, so we gave him a good send off, and that is the kinda weird shit that the community was doing back then. Was we were - we were taking care of our own, because if we didn't who would, y'know? But, anyways, hug your friends, hug your dog. I'm gonna go flip my record, I'm playing the Jodie Mitchell Archives today.β End Video Description. ]
