immortal words
you know what today means
An Irish far-right streamer attempts to interview an antifascist. Sound on. [video]
Update from the Twitter account of the hero in that video:
Fighters of the Liaudies GynÄjai (People's Defenders), Lithuanian communists in the 1940s-50s who supported the Soviet Union and fought against the fascist CIA-backed âForest Brothersâ terrorists.
The Liaudies GynÄjai were drawn mainly from the poor peasantry who had been oppressed before the revolution (whereas "Forest Brothers" were all upper-class, coming from the landlords and bourgeoisie). They were strong supporters of Marxism-Leninism, and served as an all-volunteer militia defending collective farms and Communist Party members in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. Collective farms were often targeted for terrorist attacks, and communists were often victims of assassination. The Liaudies GynÄjai also served as an auxiliary force for the Red Army, working as guides and translators.
Tens of thousands of Lithuanians served in the Liaudies GynÄjai, but since the counterrevolution that destroyed the Soviet Union, their names have largely been erased from history by the semifascist regime that now rules Lithuania. Few outside of Lithuania have heard of them, whereas the name of "Forest Brothers" is glorified, as the Lithuanian capitalist regime celebrates the kulaks and capitalists which murdered thousands of Lithuanian communists, workers and peasants, either to punish them for supporting communism and land redistribution or just to rob them (the âForest Brothersâ sustained themselves largely on banditry). The legacy of the Liaudies GynÄjai is an inconvenience to a reactionary nationalist regime that relies on the myth that all Lithuanians were anti-communist and opposed the Soviet Union, and so they have been demonized and wiped from historical memory.
The "Forest Brothers" also collaborated with the nazis, and of course, NATO put out an ad celebrating them.
the saddest thing is that originally 'forest brothers' was a name of lithuanian partisans fighting german occupation during wwi but it got appropriated by lithuanian nazi collaborators during wwii (quote from devils in amber by phillip bonosky)

Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism arenât marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.
Praying for a safe journey back to the spirit world, Uncle â¤ď¸âđŠšđŚ
Today is the anniversary of the death of Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill, Parks and Rec). Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who died protecting his transgender husband, on the first day of Pride month. Today we remember him and how he protected his family.

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
