BABIES!!!
so the best thing about this is that bobcats, like just about every feline besides lions and domestic cats, are pretty solitary. they donāt really have friends. they arenāt really equipped to make friends.Ā
domestic cats, on the other hand, do know how to make friends. they are friendly to the point that lots of feral cats live in coloniesā the females hang out together, even raise kids together, and the males like to spend nonsexual time with their baby mommas. they groom each other, play around, and have a particular tail position to signal to one anotherā straight up with the tip curledā that theyāre friendly and happy to see each other. cats learned how to be chill with each other in order to take full advantage of human food sources: an ancient granary supplies enough rats for a lot of cats, as does a modern lady with a big bag of frisky bits, so it would be a waste of time and energy for any one cat to try and stake the entire foodsource out for exclusive use. less fighting means more eating and resting which means a longer, nicer life and a lot more kittens.Ā
so this stray cat, she obviously has no colony if sheās wandering around and sneaking into zoo enclosures, so sheās likeĀ āhey! thereās food here! what up, other cat, letās be friends, letās be friends and share that foodā. and the bobcat is likeĀ ā??????ā because actually wild cats are pretty cautious about initiating hostilities and anything new and aggressive makes them very worried. and the domestic cat is likeĀ āhaha cool, ok, weāre friends now, big guy. no problems.ā and the bobcat is likeĀ ā????? wellā¦?? ok?ā and then they are friends.Ā
the super interesting thingĀ about most wild cat species is they donāt really have the capacity to make friends on their own, especially outside of sibling bonds, but,Ā if someone comes along and does all the friend-making themselves, theyāll totally roll with it. zoo cats can get really attached to their caregiversā or, in this case, a very confident little calico demonstrating exactly why her species has been so darn successful over the last nine thousand years .Ā
so anyway that is the best thing: bobcats are not equipped to make friends, but luckily for this bobcat this homeless lady did not give any shits and made friends anyway. and now they are both happy.Ā
#THE FACT THAT THE KEY TO DOMESTIC CATāS SUCCESS IS THAT THEY LEARNEDĀ #THE MEANING OF FRIENDSHIP #IS A FUCKING HOOT
I will never be over the floofpaws of the bobcat attempting loafstance in that first picture

Cancer: the future, never forgetting past trauma/overcoming sadness, not being able to let go, being used, showing their soft side, showing their real selves and coming out of their shell, having no home
Leo: being exposed to every flaw and insecurety they have, never being able to shine and show their true self, being lost, having no energy/optimism to go on, trusting the wrong ones too easily, not having the life they always wanted/admired
Virgo: being a failure to themselves and anyone else, losing control over their life, not being able to go on anymore, paranoia of everything that could go wrong, exposing themselves too early/easily

why does no one talk about how friends can break your heart so devastatingly intimately sometimes a million times worse than romantic partners why does no one talk about friend break ups
Especially because friend break ups donāt always come with the courtesy of an actual break up. Friends can just stop talking to you and we let it happen. They donāt sit you down and say āhey itās not you itās meā or āI just donāt see us working outā They say āsorry my mom said noā or āIām busy that dayā until you eventually stop asking or you drift apart. They arenāt obligated to give an explanation and sometimes that hurts more. Friend break ups donāt usually offer closure.
This has been sitting in my drafts since I saw Black Panther.. .hAAAĀ I canāt waitĀ till these two become BFFs.Ā

just a little patience
The woods were deep and shadowed, dark in a way that had nothing to do with day or night. Stiles could feel the weight of a malevolent force dragging at his spark. It was an ugly sensation, making his skin crawl and his stomach flip uneasily. This was it. The outcome that he had fought so hard to avoid. And yet, he had failed. He had failed to protect the land from the evil creeping through the trees, sinking poisoned tendrils into everything it touched.
In One Kiss Youāll Know All I Havenāt Said
One day I will write something that isnātĀ tooth-rotting Sterek fluff, but today is not that day.
Title is fromĀ Pablo Nerudaās Crepusculario.
ā⦠but Iāll be back by seven with dinner, so if you need me to pick anything up from the store before I get back, just text me.ā
āSure,ā Derek said, barely concealing a smile as Stiles tried to simultaneously shrug into his jacket, finish pulling on his shoes and shove half a banana into his mouth on his way out the door. All he managed to actually accomplish was losing the banana in one of his sleeves and jamming the laces in under his foot, so Derek stilled him with hands firm on his shoulders and crouched down, slipped the wayward shoe off to retrieve the laces and helped Stiles slide it back on, tying the laces when he was done.
āThank you,ā Stiles breathed out, pathetically grateful, and Derek did smile this time.
āNo problem,ā he said, leaning forward and pressing his mouth briefly against Stilesā.
They both froze. That wasnāt a thing they did. Not ever. They werenāt⦠no matter how much Derek might⦠they didnāt do. That.
āHuh,ā Stiles said thoughtfully, then just kind of swayed into Derekās space and returned the kiss. It was as brief and chaste as Derekās had been, but it made him frown a little, contemplatively, before he shrugged and smiled widely. āOkay. Gotta go. Iāll see you tonight!ā
And then he was gone, leaving Derek standing alone in the front hall, wondering what the hell had just happened.
*
Things werenāt at all different after that day, a fact that Derek was pathetically grateful for. He hadnāt been sure how good an idea Stiles moving into the house would be when he returned home from college, but to everyoneās surprise but Stilesā, apparently, it was a match made in heaven. To have potentially messed it up with a thoughtless, unconscious display of affection had Derekās stomach churning for the twelve hours that Stiles was on shift, only to have it all have been for nothing when Stiles came home exactly the same way he always did.
It wasnāt until a couple of weeks later that it happened again, and this time Derek wasnāt the instigator. They were shopping for outdoor furniture on Stilesā first day off in a fortnight, and even though heād been uncharacteristically sombre over the previous few shifts, he was talking more and smiling again on an unremarkable Thursday morning and that was enough for Derek.
Standing in front of a solid wooden table that seated twelve, Derek smiled a little as Stiles sat in one of the chairs and leaned back, wiggling slightly to test the comfort. āI like it.
āThereās a matching daybed and porch swing back there,ā Derek told him, gesturing back the way theyād come. āWeāll get those too. More comfortable for you to read on than this.ā
Stiles, who was in the process of getting back to his feet, paused and glanced up at Derek in surprise. āYouā thatās your decision-making rubric for furniture?ā
Uncomfortable with being unable to read the expression on Stilesā face, Derek shrugged. āYouād just complain about it, otherwise,ā he said eventually. āThe cost-benefit analysis makes sense.ā
Standing fully upright, Stiles began to smile, a slow and sleepy thing. āYouāre very sweet,ā he said in a light tone, and slid one wide palm up to cradle the side of Derekās face and touch their lips lightly together. āDonāt worry,ā he added, stepping away. āI wonāt tell anyone. Now letās go and get those cushions with the kraken on them.ā
āOctopus,ā Derek corrected absently, lips tingling.
āOctopus/octopus,ā Stiles said with the exact same inflection as he wandered away.
*
It became something that they did, after that. Not always, not in front of the others, and it was never discussed, but Derek thought it was⦠nice. More than nice, actually, but nice meant he didnāt have to think too hard about it or read too much into it, so.
Nice.
Stiles had always been tactile, it was one of the irrefutable facts of the universe. He had always been especially hands-on with Derek, something that had confused him and made him suspicious in the early days of their acquaintance when Stiles would instigate touch even as he reeked of fear. That hadnāt changed with this new thing that they did, but the intent behind it had shifted. There was a deliberateness there that Derek hadnāt noticed before, and a lingering that made his belly flip over, yet another thing he wasnāt investigating too closely.
With every kiss, whether to mouth or cheek or hand, or even the pulse point at the base of Stilesā throat when he leaned quietly against Derek in the kitchen, morning yet to paint the sky as they stood still together before the wide windows over the sink as mugs of tea or coffee sending thick plumes of steam curling up into the air, Stilesā fingers inevitably followed. They touched briefly at the back of Derekās head, rested gently and comfortably on his hip, wrapped thoughtlessly around his own fingers, thumb stroking over the lifeline on his palm.
It sustained Derek, filled him up with warmth and comfort and home, and he treasured the long moments of togetherness they shared, affection and presence offered freely and without agenda for him to bask in. He began to remember that happiness had once felt a lot like this.
*
It was almost two in the morning by the time Stiles finally came home, the fatigue of far too much overtime casting a sickly pallor over his ordinarily-mobile face and shadowing his eyes. Derek was sitting at the kitchen table, having woken when he heard the sound of tyres on the driveway, waiting for the kettle to boil with just the light from the rangehood to illuminate the room.
āThereās pyjamas fresh from the dryer in the bathroom,ā Derek called as Stiles shrugged out of his jacket and hung it in the hall closet before removing his shoes. āDo you want something to eat?ā
āNo, thanks,ā Stiles sighed, and he sounded so flat, so defeated that Derek followed the sound of his voice and met him at the bottom of the stairs.
āWhat do you need?ā he asked, barely enough light making into the hall to see by.
Stiles was silent for a long moment before smiling faintly, raising his hand to run the backs of his fingers against Derekās jaw. āNothing,ā he said eventually, his scent sweetening with melancholy. āJust a cup of tea, please. Iāll be back down in a minute.ā
āTake your time,ā Derek murmured, trapping Stilesā hand against his face with his own hand, turning and pressing his lips lingeringly to the palm of it before Stiles disappeared upstairs. Derek returned to the kitchen and made a cup of the strong black tea that Stiles favoured, adding just a little milk when he heard the shower shut off. Resting his chin in his hand, Derek yawned widely as he waited for Stiles.
āYou shouldnāt get up when I come home,ā Stiles told him as he shuffled tiredly into the kitchen.
āBest part of my day,ā Derek said softly, hooking an arm around Stilesā waist and drawing him close so that he could press his face to the warmth of Stilesā belly, rubbing back and forth like a tired child. āHaving you come home to me.ā
One of Stilesā hands splayed over the tattoo on Derekās back, the other gently cupped the back of his head as he sighed. āYou have to stop saying things like that,ā he finally said. āDerekā¦ā
āWhy?ā Derek asked tiredly, pulling Stiles a little closer. āItās true.ā
āThatās exactly why,ā Stiles explained patiently. āBecause itās true, but it means something different to you than it does to me. And I donāt think I can do that anymore.ā
The words finally penetrated the sleep-dazed haze of Derekās brain and he pulled back a little to rest his chin against Stilesā side and look up at him. āI donāt think it does,ā he said after a beat, the look on Stilesā face and the desperate want in his eyes finally making Derek brave enough to say what heād been aching to for years.
āYou donāt get toāā Stiles began, trying to pull away, but Derek held him firmly in place as he got to his feet, remaining squarely in Stilesā space.
āI think I do,ā Derek told him firmly, bracing him back against the table. āBecause,ā he swallowed hard, ābecause I think maybe youāre in love with me. And Iām in love with you too.ā The way Stiles had paled and then begun to flush at the confession was fascinating and beautiful, and Derek wanted to taste it.
āI want to kiss you all the time, for no real reason. I want to kiss you in front of the pack, in front of your colleagues, even in front of your dad, okay? I want you to kiss me when youāre laughing, when youāre angry, when youāre half asleep and canāt be bothered to even open your eyes enough to find my mouth. I want it without either of us thinking about it. I want to take it for granted. I want it to become a habit. I want it for the rest of our lives.ā
Stiles stared at him wordlessly for so long that Derek began to think heād misread the situation, but then Stiles smiled, wide and unrestrained and joyous, the shadow lifting from his eyes. āYouāre not the best with words,ā he said, laughter in his voice, ābut by god you make them count when it matters most.ā
Matching Stilesā smile with one of his own filled Derekās chest so full with something terrifying and all-encompassing that he felt his breath hitch.
āHow many kisses do you think itāll take before we take them for granted?ā Stiles asked, winding both arms around Derekās neck and shifting back to sit on the table and hook his ankles around the backs of Derekās knees.
āMore than either of us will ever have time for, even if I kissed you a thousand times a day,ā Derek promised him.
āDerek,ā Stiles smiled, love and promise turning the word into a sigh.
āI suppose we could get started on making it a habit, though,ā Derek suggested, and the laugh in Stilesā kiss was just as delicious as Derek had always imagined it would be.
