Fun fact! Comparing levels of intelligence of Justice Leagers is pretty difficult. The smartest baseline human is stated to be Ted Kord, who once used his billions of dollars of wealth to buy every single packet of Oreos on the planet in order to prank his boss. In universe, his IQ is over thirty points higher than Bruceâs. But IQ is nonsense, anyway.
Intelligence is really difficult to measure, especially with super powers. Is it the ability to learn things? If thatâs the case, the smartest member would certainly be the Flash. Wallyâs brain works just as fast as his legs, and heâs capable of running several trillion times the speed of light. Heâs capable of reading every book ever written in less than a second, and could quickly become an expert on literally anything.
Is it the ability to know things? If thatâs the case, then the answer is obviously Cyborg. With a brain that interfaces with the internet, he literally knows the sum total of human understanding. Currently, heâs even interfaced with a Motherbox, so he knows the sum total of all understanding, ever!
However, there are some things that simply arenât objective, and knowing or learning everything wonât guarantee success. Wally and Vic are both capable of messing up in interpersonal relationships, and frequently make the wrong decision. Whatâs optimal isnât always whatâs correct. Wally once used his insane speed to end all crime in Central City, full stop. However, by doing that, his interpersonal relationships and mental health suffered. He has an obligation to humanity, but he also has an obligation to himself and to his family. What comes first?
What is intelligence? Is it the ability to understand the world around us? The ability to understand people? The ability to grow? The ability to defeat someone in a game of wits? The ability to solve complex equations?
A fair case could be made for any of these things! But no matter what, or what combination, of these you choose, Batman never wins! There is no category that heâs the best in! The best argument I once saw for Batman was that he is the smartest because he surrounds himself with the smartest people, but that falls apart when you look at his self destructive tendency towards isolation. Him being the smartest member of the Justice League is just Bad Writing.
(Side Note: My personal nomination would be the Martian Manhunter, as his telepathy grants him both infinite knowledge and infinite emotional understanding. However, there are definitely arguments otherwise. For instance, he chooses to value freedom over safety, which, while being a decision I can get on board with, is not one with an objective answer!)
