Imagine Auron being with Rook who has a laughing problem. They laugh at the smallest things and sometimes in serious moments. Laugh the most when theyâre with him. Auron utterly confuses and asks whatâs so funny only for it to make it worst for Rook that theyâre in tears and so he just lets them laugh it out bc they canât answer his question.
And when they tell him for whatever reason, heâs just like âYou find that funny?â with a deadpan on his face.
I loved this so much that I felt the need to write a fic about it. I love my wife so much.
Auron hadnât been lying when he had said he found himself smiling more since he met them. It was a small change yet it didnât go unnoticed by his employees as they cast his puzzled glances at his warmer expressions. His lips always upturned when he heard that faint laugh from down the hallway, always leaving him with a giddy feeling in his stomach. Work had become.. exciting in a sense, what was once just a simple going through the motions was now something he looked forward to. How could he not? The idea of seeing them even just a glimpse brightened up every cold morning.
So thatâs how he found himself utterly distracted in his meeting. The Legal team was presenting a series of potential contracts that were pending approval as well as data for possible outcomes of accepting said contracts. Auron was quite good at keeping focus when it came to his business but how could he when they were right there? He watched their face twitch as a board member hiccuped, the way they glanced off to the board, jaw strained tightly. Was something the matter? His brow furrowed, he prided himself on his ability to read people but his Rookie hadnât always been as open of a book as he would have liked. That was all good and fine but now he wished he could tap into that brilliant mind of theirs to see what seemed to be weighing on them.
The Legal teamâs presenter was quite good, he had worked in PR up until he got into a spat with a co-worker and he was transferred. Connor was his name, always loud and firm with his words but his front was admirable. Auron watched him slick back his blonde hair with one hand as he spoke, every word seeming to land perfectlyâ except for one. At the end of his speech he stumbled over the word exceptionally, quickly correcting himself but he was too late. A sharp bark of laughter came from behind him which was quickly cut short as Rookie slammed a hand over their own mouth, color draining from their face. The whole room turned to look at them as they slid their hand back down to their side, face stilling.
â[Last Name], is there something youâd like to add?â One of the board members asked as Auron frowned, watching them swiftly shake their head no. The slip up hadnât been that funny yet it still drew a loud laugh from them. Now they simply look petrified by their own mistake as Connor scowled at them before returning to his spiel. The meeting came to a close and Auron hurried to try and catch their eye but they had turned tail and escaped the meeting room. That was fine, he could always catch up to them later then. It wasnât the first time he had heard them burst into laughter like thatâ far from it, everything seemed to be humorous to them. Sometimes theyâd laugh so hard that Auron would simply have to wait as they clung to his shoulder, struggling to catch their breath after howling with laughter. It was cute, sure but he could never figure out what was so funny.
Auron beelined to their office, ignoring the curious looks from their co-workers. He rapped his knuckles against the door onceâ then twice, waiting for an answer that never came. Sighing, he let himself into the empty office, theyâd returned soon he was certain of it but for now.. He had grown fond of how Rookie had decorated their office, it was so perfectly them. Framed photographs lined the wall and he stared longingly at their smiling face, drawing a small smile of his own. The door clicked open and he turned on his heel, watching them jump at the sight of him before laughing once more.
âAuron! You startled me, were youâ did you need meâ Er, something?â He watched them fumble their words, glancing over their shoulder before closing the door behind them. Clearly their moment in the meeting room had disorientated them a bit, it was cute.
âI wanted to check in with you after the meeting.â He hummed simply, stepping closer to watch their pupils dilate. âAre you alright? You seemed..â His lips pursed together as he tried to find the right word for it, âoff in todayâs meeting.â
They dropped their head into their hands for a moment, âGosh, that was so embarrassing. I couldnât stop laughing, Connorâs stupid get up was frying me.â
âFrying.. you? Iâm not sure I understand what that means.â Auronâs brows pushed together for a moment before deciding it wasnât worth trying to figure out. Fortunately for him, he didnât have to. Rookieâs face screwed up for a moment before they started cackling again, Auronâs puzzled expression only seeming to make it worse as they steadied themself against a filing cabinet. It took them a couple minutes to get a hold of themself, wiping their eyes with the bottom of their palm.Â
They were still giggling as they hopped up onto their desk, Auron frowning at them playfully before approaching. His hand slid around to the back of their neck, pulling them close to press a quick kiss to their forehead. âOkay.. well, I just wanted to check in. Iâm glad youâre.. in good spirits.â His words drew more giggles from them and he bit back a smile before leaning in for an actual kiss. When he pulled away, he smiled at their grinning face, shaking his head. âYouâre silly, anywho I have a call coming up in a half an hour so I need to head back upstairs.â
âWould you like to join me tonight for dinner?â He proposed as he took a couple steps back towards the door, earning more chuckles from them as they nodded. âI would love to.â Their words made him grin, heart already beginning to beat quicker at the thought of seeing them tonight. His fingers curled around the door knob as he opened it wide, straightening up his shoulders.Â
âVery well then, go on and get back to work.â He said with an authoritative tone but the warmth hadnât left his eyes as Rookie laughed at him, watching him go. Oh, how he couldnât wait for tonight.
