Love is not being content until I see you smile, love is turning to make sure you think the show on television is okay, love is counting down the days until your birthday and curling closer when you pull away, love is sentimental and overstated and hidden and so essential because it’s you, it’s always been you, it’s when you’ve taken over my life and replaced all my memories with yours, it’s when I buy wheat pasta because you hate plain, it’s how happy I can make you, not how happy you make me. Love is selflessness and this is why love is trust - I give you everything. You are my everything. Remove yourself and you remove my world, one that I have constructed around your 5 o’clock shadow and the smell of your soap. That is love to me: stopping in stores and looking for flannel shirts in your size from an inside joke we shared once, remembering it’s the anniversary of your grandfather’s death, and saving you the last slice of cake I want to finish. This is love. Or at least, to me.”
